  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I know it's not recommended, but I went to a quick food from a pizza shop the other day with my dog in the car. Not inside out of sight, more like 20 feet away. It was warm enough that leaving him in the car for a few minutes would have been uncomfortable. It's not a regular practice of mine to do this but my pup has an intestinal bug and I couldn't leave him at home due to possible diarrhea in the house.

So anyway, I decided to try to leave the car running with the AC on and locking the doors with the key fob from the outside with the car running. It doesn't work. While writing this, I'm wondering if it's even possible to do or maybe if I had tried pressing the door handle switch might do it?

Anyone have any ideas on how to lock the car doors from the outside while the car is running?

Thanks

Possibly, you can lock all the other doors, then after you are out, use the mechanical key to lock the driver's door. Otherwise, you could shut it off, get out, lock it, then use the remote start.

I feel like an idiot. I didn't remember there is a mechanical key. I'll try it out. Thanks for the advice.

I think to access the key hole you have to pop off a plastic cover on the handle. I don’t think it would be the best to keep popping that cover off and on. It might wear out or get damaged if continuously used.
