  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking for a Used 2015/2016

Probably built on a Wednesday - according to the old Johnny Cash song, that's when the line workers put in their best effort...

Yeah - the G was a fun car even with the repairs. I eventually got tired of it beating me up on my commute. Infiniti/Nissan is not Japan's best effort qualitywise, unfortunately.

What all have you had go wrong? Hoping that by this point, the former owners will have dealt with most of the electrical/sunroof gremlins.
You do have to keep the sunroof well lubed, but that's true of most cars. Hyundai recently extended the warranty on the pano roof, even to subsequent, non original owners to 10yr/120k miles, or something like that.

That's great to know! Thanks

Just to update everyone, I found and pulled the trigger on a 1 owner 2015 5.0 yesterday with 75k miles that I think was likely majority highway use judging from seat wear, rock chips on the front and the navigation destinations. Car is in great shape and was flawless on the 300 mile trip home last night even in torrential rainfall. Thank you all for your suggestions and advice, I appreciate it!

Congrats and enjoy! Which color combo/trim did you get?

Ended up with a Parisian Gray 5.0 with the Tech package and black interior.

Nice. Congrats. Consider changing the rear trunk emblem to Genesis wings. It makes a big difference over the H.

Was the first thing I ordered when I got it home as well as updating the nav to get Car Play. Will be putting it on when we get back from the in-laws.

Nice. I have the same, but in black. I think you’ll love the V8. Hopefully you won’t miss the extra goodies.

I honestly viewed the Ultimate package as a minus because of the lack of a CarPlay upgrade, I just enjoy CP quite a bit. If I had found an Ultimate for a crazy deal, I probably would have still bought it but I'm perfectly happy to forgo the other extras in favor of CP.

Power train seems very solid in the 5.0.

Based on my experience, I would never consider a used 2015 without some kind of quality warranty to go with it. Have had a ton of problems, and parts are expensive.

Probably better to just go for a 2016 and up.
I have a 15 ultimate with the 5.0.
It has plenty power but the transmission did take a crap on me and I guess the notorious sunroof problem. I changed fluid and filter for.tranny with some.lucas and has been working since but is still off, not 100%
I didi get a extended warranty for.1,800$

How many miles did the transmission have before it began acting up?

My 2015 5.0 has 73k mile on the original fluid/filter and shift very smooth. However, I will change the fluid/filter at 80k miles.

I believe it was only around 30,000 miles. I bought the car with 24,xxx. The filter fluid and lucas did bring it back to life though. I did the lucas but many not need to be done on yours and I personally wouldn't if yours is shifting fine. There was not large metal in the filter or pan but just fine black dust. I feel like I just got a bad one off the lot, and it happens.
Expect to pay around 500$ for that fluid, filter, pan job. Fluid is around 14$ a qt. And the filter is built into the pan.

How is it holding up? I was considering purchasing a 2015 3.8 Ultimate (Casablanca White) but after reading this thread I found a 2016 3.8 ultimate (Ibiza blue) with damn near the same mileage. Unfortunately the 2015 is 2 miles away from me(Texas) and the 16 is in Norman Oklahoma but that's only hour and a half drive. Think I might take it for a test drive. Or have y'all's opinions changed on this generation genesis?

Are you up in Denton?

We have a 2015 3.8 rwd Ultimate and its a great car, quiet, comfortable, and fast enough considering it's a big sedan. The only big item was rear differential replacement under warranty. Otherwise the drl bulbs go out frequently but they're cheap and easy to replace.

The 2015 and 2016 models are nearly identical so pick the one you like best, you won't be disappointed.

I have a 2015with 98K and have had it for 3 years. Started at 70K miles.

Maintenance and repairs in those 3 years:
(1) backup camera wiring issues caused the techs at Hyundai dealership to fry my head unit. Only charged for the new camera, but the fix is not 100% reliable. This is a well known issue and the subject of a TSB.
(2) tires. The 5.0L car eats tires. You'll get 20K out of the rears if you're lucky, a bit more out of the front tires.
(3) seat backing detaches. There's a cheap easy fix.
(4) rear trunk switch rubber degrades. Doable for a DIYer. The tricky part is getting the @#)#@$#$ camera assembly out. roughly $200-300 at dealer.
(5) thrumming from drivetrain during first 5 minutes of driving. Is worse in cold weather but goes away. Various theories on what causes it but I think it's the rubber coupling. Did not fix.
(6) Paint quality in the front is not the best on my black car. Not worth it to fix.
(7) The third brakelight rubber dissolves. My fix was weatherstripping ($5).

No engine, transmission or suspension issues to date (knock on wood). I change the oil every 5K. I anticipate needing to get the intake valves walnut blasted some day but no issue yet to date with performance. It's a very quiet, powerful smooth car with lots of features and nannies. I love the cooled seats and the adaptive cruise control and the seats. Very roomy too for a big guy like me (6'1", 200#) and the back seats are plenty spacious too. Fuel economy around town can be almost 20 if you're really trying hard, and 24-25 on the highway.
