  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

There's a 2012 Genesis 3.8 with premium package local to me. Lexicon system, Nav, Under 45K miles. Price is fantastic. My current 2011 Sonata has served me very well at 193k on the clock after 11 years. Any reason not to buy the Genesis? Looking to what what owners have to say. Thanks guys!

:welcome:

The 2012 3.8 is a solid car. No significant chronic issues IMO.

That said, 11 year old cars have 11 year old car issues. 11 year old luxury gadget barges with 100% imported parts are expensive to fix (like Mercedes/BMW expensive). Unlike Sonata, Genesis is 100% Korea so everything is imported, expensive, and takes forever to get, if you can get it. Speaking of parts, beware some spare parts like ECUs being reported as getting scarce on 1st gens. Might just be the DIY folks without access to GDS but the winds seem like they are a changin'.

My advice has always been to not own a Genesis (1st or 2nd gen or the "name brand" "G" cars) out of warranty. Recent trends in used car prices and new car available mean that I now do violate my own advice (mine expired in July). Right now the plan is for the tank to go to one of my kids in the next 12-18 months. But rising scarcity of 10+ year old spare parts is making me rethink my choices of late.

Also, free advice is worth every cent.

Thanks for the welcome and the feedback. I would never buy a used car of any sort without getting an extended or aftermarket warranty. I will get one if i go that route. I'm going to drive it tomorrow, wish me luck!
