If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking for Tires R-Spec 19 inch

Scottdk, you say these aren't a reasonable comparison, but those are the tires i am weighing against each other (looked at the Turanza by Bridgestone, but ... not really drawing me in). I drive "spirited" as folks say, but I am not ever at the track and willing to give up some performance for a quieter and a bit softer ride. Which is typically quieter? Summer or A/S ?

DW or DWS?

The tests I have read seem to indicate the DW is one of the quietest around; yet some of the reviews make them sound horribly noisy; too much opinion, not enough data I suppose.

I said they really aren't a fair comparison because the DW is a summer tire and the others the OP listed earlier in the thread are an all season tire.

I have beat the hell out of the DW's and still have about 50% tread left after 25,000 miles of hard-on-rubber driving.

My '12 R Spec came with the Bridgestone S04 tires in 245. I got about 17k miles out of them. Great tire for what it is, a summer performance tire.

I was looking for something that might last a little longer and so went with the Conti DW in 245. Another great tire and it seemed to have a little more grip for the first part of the tires life. I got about 20K out of the set. But at about 15K miles, I noticed that it seemed to not grip as well. Or maybe I was just driving harder.

I'm now on my second set of Conti DW's and will see if they last any longer. If not, then I'll be looking for something else next time around.

My biggest issue, I like using the full 429 HP most of the time. :)

Any opinions on which is typically quieter: a summer tire like the DW or an A/S like the DWS or Pilot Sport A/S 3 by Michelin?

I am annoyed by how much road noise i get from the stock conti's that came on mine. I am going to step up to the 245 from the 235's and hopefully purchase a quieter ride!

Crusty, any improvement in road noise when you switched to the DWs?

DWs tread is harder under 5/32nds according to some. Michelin advertises their performance or all season tires have same compound throughout their tread depth (more expensive to do) supposedly the Bridgestone Serenity Plus are built with consistent tread stickiness/performance throughout its life. Or so manufacturer rep said.

None that I could tell. The SO4's were not all that loud to begin with.

I talked with my local tire guy today and he is convinced (and has nearly convinced me), that we can in fact run the Michelin Super Sports on our R-spec rims. we took a rim off and checked to verify width (8 in - in spite of what their book said). Thought is that going to a 255 / 40 /19 will run about 2 10th of an inch wider than the factory optional 245/45/19 option. I tad shorter tire overall, but a tad wider also - more surface to the ground and overall probably the best tire option possible. :D

Any thoughts or concerns out there about this possibility? Any tried it already?

Also, his first hand experience /opinion in going directly from Mich Super sport to Mich A/S 3 is that the SS is noticeably quieter; as should a summer tire with less tread pattern to chatter the road be...

well, got my Michelin super sports on my R-spec about a month ago. Yes, you have to go "out of spec" with 255/40/19 to get that tire. I haven't driven the DW's, but WOW! these SS tires are such a huge improvement over the stock tires. Better than i expected and not really that much more money. roughly $255 a tire and worth every penny.

The wider tire really helped the look of the car IMHO. I was worried they would be too wide, but they look like the stock tires SHOULD look. I think they look better. and they do wonders for the traction. more power to the road.... of course if your in to doing burn outs... they probably aren't the choice for you. but if your into putting all that power into motion; excellent choice!

happy with my purchase. :D

only have about 1,000 miles on them, but they definitely improve the ride quality also.
