  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

My current BMW lease is expiring, and am looking to purchase a used 3.8 in the Los Angeles area, preferably CPO so I can get the benefit of the extended powertrain warranty. Wanted to get some sense of the kinds of prices I should expect to pay, if I should be looking at a later year, etc. Don't need the options, so basic is fine with me.

I've checked out Edmunds, and their TMV seems to be on the high side - without much effort, I was able to get a quote for $26k for a CPO 2009 with 24k miles, no options. Is that a good price (TMV is $28k)? My lease is still valid for another 45 days, I can wait for the right car. Appreciate the help.

Thanks,
-RW

Base model Genesis are hard to find. The Premium and Premium Plus packages are more available. Not sure what you mean by CPO. My understanding is that the 10 year power train warranty is only available to the original purchaser. Are you saying that Hyundai offers it to CPO vehicles sold by dealers? I didn't even know that Hyundai has a CPO program (but I wouldn't know about those things).

I have a base model 2009 Genesis with 13K miles that I might be willing to sell you, but I live in the Southeast.

Check CarMax to get an idea of prices. Last I checked they had a number for sale. I find CarMax is a good benchmark to compare against.

There is a guy on another of the forums that has a leased one. He is looking to get out of it and return to an Avalon because he likes the ride better. Maybe you can work a deal to get him out of his lease. Coming from a BMW, the firmer ride of the Genesis should not be an issue.

Thanks, worth looking into for sure. Any more details on who the member or where he's located?

I would sell my 09 Premium package (Cab/Cashmere, almost 14k miles) however, I am in NJ and would think the shipping (plus what I would need for it) would be a dealbreaker.

I actually purchased my 3.8 with 9k miles on it from a dealer in Northern California where I live. I was able to get CPO status on the car but had to purchase it. If I recall, it was like $1300 or more but gave me the full 10 year warranty. Just talk to the dealer and see what they offer.
