I live in the tri state area, looking to buy a gently used Hyundai Genesis sedan 2014 base model. My dream car as of now, but my budget is only around 28-29k at most. I've seen them go as low as 27,000 but I feel like that's too good to be true, then I've seen others list them as high as 36,000 for a used car, which makes no sense because the car was originally sold for 34500 I believe. If I buy a used one would you recommend buying from a dealership or just whoever is trying to sell it? Would I still have the warranty and what not seeing that it's only been a year if I buy it not from a dealership? Thanks!

I bought a 2014 base on the last day of February, new (24 miles on the odo, and I put 10 of those on myself), MSRP was $36,185, I paid $26,700. I live in the Chicago area. If there are still some around, you should work toward that number. BTW, I am really happy with the car so far.

Are you looking for V6, or V8?
If V6, Base, Premium, or Tech package?

You can also look for a Demo. They come with the full new car warranty. "Used" cars do not.

What is a demo? I'm looking for a v6 base package I believe. I really want this car! My first real car and just a month away, couldn't come sooner. But around 26k is the price I should be paying?

A "Demo" is a dealer car that they use for test rides. A manager may also use it for a while as a personal car.
The cars will often have 3,000 to 5,000 miles on them, but they never have been titled, so they get the full "new car" warranty, instead of the Hyundai "used car" warranty.
Another option is to buy a "used" Hyundai that is "Certified Pre-Owned". This will give you the full 10 year 100,000 mile warranty on the engine. Dealers often charge $800-$1000 over a "used car" price, for a "CPO" car.

Another thing you can do is to search for a "New", or "Demo" model 2014, or even 2013, that has been sitting on the dealer's lot for over a year. You will be able to get a "killer" deal on those.

Use the internet and search the inventory of all the dealers within 30-50 miles.

Hello Everyone,

First post and new owner. I bought a new 2014 Base 3.8L last week for $27k out the door. Hyundai is clearing out the 2014's this month, and the only trouble I had was finding one with the options / color combo I wanted, so I had to drive a couple of hours to find it.

I was looking used on Auto Trader when I saw some new ones advertised for $26k. My sales price was about $24k before all the taxes, license fees, etc. There is a $5500 rebate through the end of April (which you get to pay tax on!).

Anyway, I'm very happy with my purchase so far. The 2014 comes with the 18 inch wheels and Michelins, and the ride is about as firm as I would want for a midwestern vehicle, but still compliant. I haven't driven the prior year models, so I don't have a basis for comparison. The car is very quiet. Good Luck wth your search.

Matt

I bought a 2014 R-Spec in April of 2014. I paid $41,000. I love the car....

Here is a Tip... If you get the car you love, you won't care what you paid 6 months later. If you hate the car 6 months later, it won't matter that you got it for $5K less than everyone else. You'll still feel screwed!

Called and inquired, they said MSRP is 36k... Told them only trying to spend 27-28k and they said they would call back when they figure something out.

To the above poster, it's not my budget. Can't spend more than 27-28k for my car (parents are helping pay for it) but I REALLY want a 2014 genesis.

So frustrated.. looking at all the hyundai dealerships around here and the MRSP for a used car with like 5000 miles is still like 38000... Can't even begin to find a USED car for 27-28k.

You can always purchase it from a different state. Just expand your search area. Also, there is absolutely no difference between 2013 and 2014 models. If I were you, I would look for a 2013 with around 20K miles. That will give you the best price and you'll still have enough warranty left over if you buy CPO to keep it for at least 4 years (or purchase extended and keep for 6-8 years).

That's crazy. I just got a brand new 2014 R-Spec for $37K. Sure, the sticker said $49K, but it's a 2014 and the dealer had several still on his lot.

Calvin, e-mail me, earl.warren@earthlink.net.
I have a 2014 Black/Black V-6 Base with 5500 miles.
Perhaps we can make it happen.

Was it a trade-in?
I am impressed with the low value. My leased 2012 Premium/Tech will have more or less 23k miles in December, when the lease expires. The residual value is 24.7K...

I paid 24k for a 2012 prem/tech with 30k miles. Bought it a month ago.

To the original poster, get a used 2012 or 2013 tech. You can get one and get an extended warranty for around your price. The car is amazing and I love the features.

Yes I traded it...last year

Well, my doubt is what the market price will be in Dec 2015. " Buying from myself" and knowing the car has ZERO issues has a value in itself.
In fact your figures kind of encourage me. Paying a little extra for lots of more certainty may be worthwhile.
For sure will have to buy extended warranty on mine.

I did a nationwide search and found mine in another state, about 130 miles away. If you are a serious buyer, know what you want, and can find the car you want, at a reasonable starting price, then make an offer that you'll back up with a deposit right away. Mine was listed for $28k + taxes etc. online. So I'd start with someone who is ready to deal. For a new car, I'd have no problem flying somewhere to pick it up and drive it home.

looking to buy a 2014 hyundai genesis but...

used, with 7k miles. list price was 26,900 and it's CPO. my parents don't really know how to negotiate though and the guy could tell. we wanted to pay 26k after taxes, but they would only go down to 26k as the price of the car plus 2k in taxes. basically ended up walking out and saying we'd shop around.

also, we were looking to buy it full in cash if that matters. they said we should finance and there was no pre payment penalty but the price would still be 28k in the end with taxes. and the car has been listed for 2 months.

knew they were bsing us with the price from the start when he said that "The online price is the lowest price we can go, that's the sales price because people are getting smarter and won't come if the prices are too high" but didn't know exactly how to combat his bs.

is 26k after taxes unrealistic? we live in NJ btw.
