  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 R spec Mfg date of March 12. When I bought the car I drove it about 3,000 miles, took it to the shop for an oil change and asked the tech what levelt he oil was and he said it was pretty much full, drained a lot out of it....felt good about it...

Driving to work today and the oil light goes off. Take it to my local shop. I'm out of oil...like, there's no oil at all...maybe half a quart they said...just enough to wet the very tip of the stick.

I can't imagine what in the world has happened in such a short time....

?? I'm at a loss for words...

I could be wrong but the dip stick does not touch the bottom of the pan so there was more than likely 4 or 5 quarts in the pan. Was it the low oil level light or the oil pressure light. Big difference between the two.

It was just the oil lamp icon red blinking on and off rather quickly. I'm not sure I know the difference between the two.

If the end of the dipstick was wet, you are probably Ok - but the real question is: How did the dealer screw up the oil change in the first place.? The so-called cartridge system on the 5.0 offers a number of ways. Look underneath. Are the splash panels wet with oil?

Stuff like this usually happens when the oil filter is not properly secured and oil drips out.

I did notice that the exhausts are sooty, dirty....and a cam position sensor was blinking a week ago...maybe a leak somewhere....I was almost due for an oil change...so it's been a few months..seems like if the oil filter wasn't screwed on well I would have lost the oil quicker than 3 months...

That is also true. Too many possibilities. Get it to a different shop so they can tell you what the previous shop screwed up.

Yeah...sigh...oh well..first world problems I guess....

Sure would like some more warning though...I mean..It would be nice if the light came on when you have lost like 50% of your oil or something...kinda eed to know this...

Another thing though....my mechanic asked me if I noticed oil on the ground where I park and I don't. I park in the same spot at work and the same spot at home and not one drop of oil on the ground and yet almost 8 quarts went somewhere in less than 3 months...

Does the car's exhaust smoke at all? It either leaked out due to a shoddy oil change job or your engine is burning it.

must be the engine burning it....cause there's no oil spots where I park, not even a drop.

I agree with the oil consumption test.

Talked to my auto guy, he said they dumped in 5 quarts so that means it had 4 in it I guess? its been 3-4 months since last change so thats 1 qt a month or more

It is possible the guy doing the oil change only added 5 quarts since that is what a lot of cars take. And with the filter change it would have left just a little above 4 quarts in the oil pan.A car burning that much oil would be sending a smoke screen out of the exhaust.

Yeah it would be visually very noticeable if he was burning that much oil in such a short amount of driving time. Some of the early 5.0's are known to have oil consumption issues so this may be an extreme case.
