  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Loud "thump" from rear of car

This morning I had stopped for a red light (first in line) then when it changed, I accelerated moderately (35 mph zone) then at about 30, I had a loud thump from the rear; the sound was similar to a minor real end collision. There is no pot hole or road problem in that area. The remainder off the 5 mile drive was normal.

I called my dealer service adviser who said that he had not seen that problem but would see what he could find out.

My car is not AWD. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I think everyone has. There have been lots of speculation as to the reason for the thump but nothing definitive from Hyundai.

No thumps here.... I guess I'm not everyone...... pretty broad statement

For those that have had this noise, does it get worse, continue with an occasional thump or go away?

Thanks!

I also have not had this; 16K miles on mine.

I have not had this problem, but I only have 7000 on my Genesis.

The problem seems to be associated with acceleration. I forget that not everyone here drives uses the gas pedal in the same way.

Or.... another possibility is that it's not present on every vehicle. I definitely exercise my V8, and since I was on the forum for so long before I pulled the trigger on my 2015, I was aware of the issue. One of the first things I did after break-in was test for it, and in fact continue to test for it, as one of the exits onto the highway from my sub-division is a right-hand turn.

Mine thumps, unfortunately. It's somewhat random but always under strong Acceleration. There is a huge thread on this topic yet still no root cause
.

^thanks, the think in the trunk thread is what I was thinking of although not as large a thread as I was thinking. Didn't one member actually trade in his Genny because of frustration in fixing the thunk?

Yep, Mac West.

Yep, Mac West.

Seems silly to me...look at the $ lost he made getting rid the Genny
Did he ever file a complaint with Corp. to get this resolved ???
Must be nice to throw money away OR it's not true

The things we don't know we can learn, its the thing we know that aren't so that cause us problems.

I hear the thump when going in reverse. I have about 15k miles on mine.
