  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yes, everyone. The 3.8 when cold gets poor mileage, especially on short trip. I've watched mine over time. When I was working with a 24 mile commute, it was not too bad. A 2 mile trip to the store gets about 10 mpg. The return trip a bit warmer brings the average to about 13. If I reset it after the first let, the second is closer to 16.

I can't comment on yours as I don't know how much is stop and go, if you warmed the car up as that brings the average down with 5 or 10 minutes of idle time. If you have a lot of stops, it takes a lot of fuel to get the mass moving again.

I don't know how accurate the reading is on a really short trips, the other day a half mile was 5.8 mpg at 30 degrees.

this is basically true with all vehicles/motors, especially heavy sedans. Light weight cars with small 4-bangers get hot faster so they do a little better with inner city driving, but they still suffer horrible MPG in low speed stop and go traffic, be it light to light or creeping along on a highway when compared to their highway MPG.

For a car the size and weight of the Genesis 13-15mpg is decent, 11 seems low, but that can be contributed to several things, most notably a heavy foot that jack rabbits between the gaps or lights.

winter gas will also net a lower mpg as well

Super common issue when driving short distances.

Getting about 14 sometimes 15 in gridlock. In summer on highways I was getting 7.9 so I have no idea what's going on. Cold starts and warming it up maybe? I only warm up for a minute or less.

Same here. All my around-town driving is at low-teens MPG. Highway MPG remains at 31-32 (flat ground, steady 65 mph).

An original owner of a 2009 Genesis 3.8 I am a very low mileage driver, having only 40,700 miles on the odometer. In very short trips in the neighborhood I'll get 12-13 mpg. In normal mixed driving I average 18 mpg. On primarily interstate driving in my metropolitan area @ 24 mpg, and on my occasional longer highway trips (200 or more miles) I'll get 32 mpg.

I've got a 2014 R-Spec. My daily commute is about 20 miles at an average speed of 16-20 mph. I get about 12-14 MPG on 93 octane gas, year round.
