Low Key Battery Warning

Went out to do some shopping this morning. Turned off the Genesis in the parking lot and got the low key battery message.

While we were shopping I bought a fresh pack of Energizer 2032 batteries, then replaced the battery in the fob. The next time I shut off the engine I once again got the low key battery warning.

The batteries are fresh and work in the other devices in which I've installed them.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?

Do you have the other key in proximity? I had to replace both remotes batteries. Plus, I think it takes a few cycles to recognize that the new battery is in place.

It may be the "few cycles" thing. Both times I got the warning my wife was with me and she carries the other fob in her purse. This morning I checked the voltage of the battery in her fob and it checked out at a little over 3V. I checked the new battery in my fob and it checked out at 3.5V. The old battery from my fob checked at ~2.5V.

We were out for a bit this morning and the warning didn't show either time I shut the car off. This afternoon I'll be out be myself so I'll keep an eye out for the warning again.

Just an FYI. Even if you remove the battery from the fob you can still start and operate the by simply pushing the start button with the fob. Obviously you will need to remove and use the physical key to be able to unlock before entering assuming the doors were locked. I keep my spare fob in the car with no batteries in it as I can unlock remotely if I were to lose my regular fob.

I received the same low battery message last week. I replaced the fob battery and it worked correctly the first time. My other fob was not nearby. I'm not sure why an electronic circuit would need a few cycles to recognize a fresh battery.

If, for some reason, one feels the need to keep a spare fob inside the car for emergency use, then remove the battery and put it in a non-conductive wrapper such as paper. It need not be kept in the same place inside the car as the fob itself if one is seeking maximum security. Once entry to car is obtained by use of the blade key from the original fob, Blue link remote access, or through locksmith then marry the fob and battery in the car and carry on as normal using this second fob.
The blade key from the original fob could be concealed in a magnetic case outside the car for just such a reason. This would require the assumption that such situations are somewhat likely for one to go to this effort, but I can imagine how there could be such times.

Had the battery low warning for my fob and as it was still showing the warning after replacing replaced the battery in my other fob....problem solved!

The problem is that your battery needs to be more extroverted.

^Same here, replaced my key FOB battery last week without any issues. The low battery warning message went away.
