If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi,

GF and I went to dealer to look at a SUV for her business... and they had a 2011 4.6 with 6700 Miles. It was a managers car.

10/100,000 Mile warranty. for 30 K.

I used to have a 99 BMW E39 540 Touring... loved that car... when it worked.

1 - sounds like a screaming deal to me.
2 - what other issues (looked at the iphone integration quirks)
3 - What am I missing?

What are the real world experiences with this vehicle.

Would be trading my 09 Accord in... they just rebuilt to top end of the motor for excessive oil consumption...

Thanks for your input!

Most common problem seems to be with audio system, but not on all cars. You can search the forum for that info.

Is that the Accord V6 or 4 cylinder engine?

Pass it by. Overpriced. Look for a '12 or later. 3.8 is fine.

But would not recommend a 2012 Genesis 5.0 or R-Spec due to oil consumptions problems.

I have the 2011 4.6. I love it. 44k with no issues. Driving it doesn't get old.

My only complaint is thst it is too tempting to gas it. .. my fuel consumption isn't great (but it's my own fault).

Have you started negotiations yet? If not, then the $30K price tag is almost meaningless.

These are terrific cars and most of us love them, however, there is a big list of "issues" that comes with them. Most of us have different issues. One common thread is the radio although I've never had an issue with mine. (knock on wood).

I'd say take a good look at it (by the way, ALL these cars like you're talking about are some sort of "manger/owner" cars).

Get a Car Fax (people will laugh about that, but, it's better than no report).

If you get it, be sure to get the CPO warranty as it's worth it.

One problem you're almost guaranteed to hate the original tires (Dunlops). If you make a deal, I'd try to make them swap them out for a good tire 'coz you're just not gonna' like those tires.

I love my Genny but was unprepared for having to take it back to the dealership 7 or 8 times in the first 3 months (sometimes for 2 weeks at a time). Right now I have no issues. I love the power, ride, gadgets, sound system is awesome.

The fit and finish are first rate, but, like McDonald's et al there are quite a few folks who like one type sandwich vs another type sandwich. IOW, different opinions.

Personally, I'd by my Genny again, but, I'd go for the 5.0L as only the early models had an issue with oil consumption and even then it wasn't all 5.0L, just a small percentage and it's been fixed.

119,000 on my 2011 4.6 with tech. Great car. No problems. Still have the original brake pads. No oil used. Audio has always worked well, best oem system I have ever heard in a car. Active cruise is used almost everyday and works perfectly.

While it's low mileage, it seems overpriced.

For comparison, I purchased a 2013 3.8 Base model with Certified Pre-Owned Warranty till 100,000 miles for $21K about a month ago. And 2012+, 3.8 model is almost fast as the 4.6.

The only thing I don't like about the car is the Dunlop tires and Bluetooth system.

Thanks to all who replied.

My 09 Accord is the i4 Manual EX-L

I too thought this was a bit high. It is a CPO car (10/100K).

Was thinking if I can get them down to 26-27,000 or so, that would be the deal.

Would love to do the 2012 for 30,000 ... Is the 8 speed Tranny that much better than the 6 Speed?

What's wrong with the Dunlops? Had the SP Sport 2000E's on the E39 540... ate them for lunch and didn't last more than 20K... but they were great (except snow... got dedicated snows).

Here is what you pay for a 2011 here in south Florida...

  • The car you are looking at is a very low mileage CPO car, so some comments by others about what you should pay may not exactly apply. If you print out the other 2011 listings and show it to the dealer, that will help in negotiations. But still expect to pay more than any of the other 2011's for sale.
  • Do not buy a 2012 5.0 or Rpec. There is too great of a risk of excess oil consumption (and possibly worse later on). There are many threads on this subject. DO NOT DO IT--Final Warning. 2013 or 2014 is OK. There is going to be some spectacular sales on 2013/2014 coming up in May/June when 2015 arrives. Many dealers still have 2013 stock.
  • No, the 8-speed Hyundai transmission is not better than the 6-speed ZF transmission (which is/was used in other cars such as BMW). The 8-speed does get about 1 MPG better fuel economy.
  • OEM Dunlops on the Genesis are a bit harsh riding and don't last long. But don't worry about that, and just wait until they wear out and get something with a more comfortable ride.
  • Overall, the 2011 4.6 is probably the most reliable Genesis V8 to date
.

Personally, I love the 8spd transmission. I have about 20,000 miles on the clock. Smoothest auto tranny I've ever had. My last car was an '09 Accord EX-L. When I bought my '12, I tested an '11. I ran, didn't walk, back to '12 and drove it out the door.

A little off topic, but... I checked out a '12 3.8 premium and '11 4.6 . To me, there was no comparison and I went for the '11. It might be close in speed, but the experience accelerating with the v8 is completely different.

With all that said, regardless of your preference you aren't going to find a better value.

Your into Camry and accord prices (used) on the base genesis and the genesis blows them away.

For me, I only considered 2012+ models vs 2011 due to

1. Styling improvements although minor makes the 2012+ look much more modern (love the LED strips)
2. Direct injection engine with more horse power
3) 8 speed tranny

Those makes BIG differences for me and thus I would never consider pre 2012 models.

That's easy for you to say since you have the 3.8 V6, which seems to work fine in 2012 (first year of direct injection). The first year of the 5.0 V8 has had a fairly high rate of excess oil consumption problems that are not trivial. Since OP is apparently looking for a V8, the that is why a 2011 may be a better option (but 2013+ would be fine since they fixed the oil consumption problem).

Good point, if 2012 V8's have problems then yes the direct injection is not a plus for that model year. I was just talking from my point of view with my car, a 2013 V6 model.

I have a 2011 V8 with 57000 trouble free miles -- reliable and fun!

Question on your adaptive cruise.... You said perfect... Does it come up behind a car and hit the brakes when showing the shortest distance to the car in front? It sees the car, but does not gently ease off the gas? Does it jam on the brakes of someone pulls I front of you in passing lane? Or is it smooth by first coasting and only on occasion hit the brakes?

Mine is terrible. Runs up hard on traffic and jams the brakes everything. Eve though it sees the car in front for a long time (the symbol in the dash).. Also , never gentle when someone chances lanes in front of me.

I drove a 2014 Equus, and the adaptive cruise did not have any of these problems.

I am asking to I can take it to dealer and demand a adjustment to the adaptive cruise.

Thanks
