  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

looking for a major engine modification
supercharger that boosts to 460 bhp
cool air intake
all that jazz

any websites that offer to do it?
price not problem

The aftermarket companies need to get it together with mods for this car.
Especially the 3.8. All I have seen are lowering springs. 2 bodykits. A few rim styles
That fit and a k&n air filter for the v6 all on seperate sites.
I can't see why they just don't sell all these parts on 1 site.
Or at least make it news somewhere.

This car already has all the power that you can use. You sound like the guys over at the www.mercurymarauder.org site, who want to add Superchargers to an already fast car. (Reinhart Automotive in Jacksonville does a lot of Marauder Supercharger installs). My Marauder was super fast as it was, and the Genesis 4.6 even more so. JMHO

BTW, If you do want a supercharger or turbocharger, better wait until the warranty runs out.

I know that Hyundai has demoed a 460HP Supercharged Tau 4.6 - and the basic design of the engine would seem to lend itself to supercharging.

The big concerns that I would have would be:
  • Packaging - just because the engine is ripe for supercharging does not mean that it would be easy to make it fit in the current footprint
  • Engine control - to really get the most out of it, there would probably need to be updates to the ECU
  • Transmission - I don't know how well the stock transmission would deal with an 85HP increase

I'm not saying any of this to discourage someone from taking the plunge, of course, but when I get mine, I'm pretty sure that I am going to leave well enough alone.

All I would like is for someone to offer an ECU update to change the shift patterns and remove the oppressive nature of the ESC. That would waken the 4.6 up a lot! I actually wouldn't want to mess with the "power" of the engine as it's already set to use higher octane fuel and there's no need to stress the head gaskets.

Has anyone heard of research being done on the ECU? $$$$

I think you have to face a basic fact: the aftermarket for this car is and will be very small. It is not like the Corvette market where several manufacturers offer headers, exhausts, etc. Most owners of Genesis sedans will never, ever modify anything. Were a mfg to design and create headers I doubt he would sell ten units.
That said there are perhaps some things you can do. You can add nitrious fairly easily, compared to a one-off supercharger. Nitrious can be removed when taking the car in for warranty service.
There are probably some restrictions in the intake tract, which can be removed, at the expense of intake noise on wide open throttle (WOT).
If someone can hack into the ECU there are probably some gains to be made by leaning out the fuel mixture at WOT - as a general rule mfgs program a pig-rich mixture at WOT in the theory that it is better to err on richness.

Wanting "more" is human. Some want it, some don't. There's nothing wrong with wanting more. Aren't Corvette's fast enough? Everybody modifies those too...

I built my own Cold Air Intake for my 4.6 identical to the Digital Genesis at Rides Magazine. At low rpms the intake noise was awful. At high rpms it sounded and ran great, but I could not tolerate the intake noise at the lower rpms. It looked great as well. I took it off because of the noise. I tried everthing I knew to eliminate the flubbering sound. Sounded sort of like an 18 wheeler using the engine retard to slow the truck. If anyone else wants to give it a shot, please let me know if you find a way to get rid of that noise. The vendor that I got the intake parts from seems to think that the ECU may need to be re-programed. Makes sense to me as well. Of course that was the only thing that I couldn't try. I got all the parts for around $120.00. It was really easy to build. Parts list consisted of a 4" 90, 4" 45, 4"x6" straight, and 3 - 4" couplings. All I had to do was send them a picture of my engine bay. Again, it was just like the Genesis at Rides Mag.

If you've looked at the 460HP Genesis specs carefully, you might have also noticed they strengthend the bottom end, especialy the pistons, and the transmistion. It wasn't just a bolt-on and retune. Also some interesting routing of the air intake path; enters the SC unit at the back of the engine. ( for info perpose on mods, not to knock you paperpusher, like your ingenuity)

No problem Mark,

You lost me on the air intake routing path (SC). Could you explain a little more please? I couldn't figure out why it should be so noisy.

Thanks

I'm not sure why yours was so noisy either. But on my Grand Cherokee win a 4.6L V8, I changed the stock air setup to a K&N cold air setup. Made it sound like an after market exaust had been installed.

I'll try to (re)find a link with more info on what they did building the 460HP Tau. Will post it here so you can check the rather interesting routing of the air intake. Till then, it's not just a simple air enters from front -> enters the Super Charger at front of motor -> goes down to heads.

The flow path is rather unique as well, with the supercharger intake at the rear, charged air going down into the intercooler and then back up into a split plenum which feeds the throttle at the rear of the engine.

Check this site for some picks of the engine nekked (with out car); ie good wholsome gearhead engine p0rn.
Might be better ones but first one I found.
