  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Map update problems

Latest update: The Map Guys are sending a new chip. The problem I noted is definitely centered on the map scale switching matrix, so I am hopeful that the most recent misbehavior will also be cured by whatever they have corrected. Yesterday, I discovered that it was possible to prevent the screen going blank below 40 mph by changing the >20 mph setting to "2 miles". The screen then switched the map scale correctly as speed dropped, and did not vanish. Of course, a 2 mile scale isn't very useful when the car is moving slowly. I'll confirm success or otherwise as soon as I have received and installed the chip.

Does MapnSoft have a manual of instruction for the update other than the folder that came with the SD and USB media?

I was told by that company 'to look for' a manual update after the end of June. Presumably it will appear on their website, and be available for download.

Never saw one. What instructions do you need? Plug it in and it takes care of itself.

Not always.
It was pretty much automatic on my 2015 Cadenza (SD card), but there were a number of manual steps required for my 2012 Sonata (USB), including entering an auth code. Of course, I don't how relevant any of this is to different Genesis models.

Two things

To be clear: there are two different documents: The first one is the folded brochure that accompanies the update chip. That brochure, as received in May and for a 2016 Genny, was incorrect, inasmuch as Step 3 duplicated the chip installation action carried out in Step 1. The MapSoft guys were duly informed, and the chip brochure accompanying the replacement chip (the first update chip had defective code, and which didn't, in fact, take care of itself), was a corrected version.
The second document, the one I was referring to, is a necessary update to the Genesis owners manual instructions - in my case, for the 2015 model. These operating (as opposed to installation) instructions, as published in the 2015 manual are drastically out of date, as a number of revisions have been made to the software. That situation probably also pertains to anyone with a car, 2017-19 G80 or 2015/16 Genesis, to some degree. The current operating features were promised, presumably in the form of a downloadable PDF file, sometime in July.

Surprises to avoid while driving. Installed the updated maps and tested the system. The map voice in the updated version was far too loud. In the original version, to decrease the map voice volume one could use the steering wheel control audio volume switch to raise/lower map voice when the nav system was audible. Not so anymore. Best guess is even though I have the jog wheel, I'll have to lean over and use the touch sensitive screen to adjust map voice volume. Any other surprises to be aware of?

Some models may differ but I've done five on two different Genesis just by slipping in the SD and taking a ride for half hour until the radio came back on.

Same here. After tooling around for 35 mins or so, the system rebooted on it's own. Can't speak to the Voice Command stuff (pun unintended) - I only tried to use it a few times & it failed miserably. My 05 Acura TL "understood" VC's way better than my Infinti or the Genesis.
