  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Mass Issue: Genesis Infotainment Driver/User Profile Settings Reset Discussion

My GV80 has been sitting in the garage on a battery tender for a week, now I'm afraid to start the thing up!

Mine did as well. Was there a message for anyone saying "link to the account has been disabled from the phone, account will be reset to default setting"?
Yes there was and just as soon as I hit confirm the screen went blank, audio turned off, audio presets were gone and mostly all my settings were deleted. The digital speed on the center cluster was also unchecked and defaulted back to select connections.

I had to perform a hard reset of the head unit to get the audio back on and from there is was just a matter of setting things up like I had them.

This is the second time that I have experienced this issue and I will just say it is very inconvenient to have go in and reprogram everything the way you had it.

Who knows wether or not this was some sort of glitch or something somewhere along the line got hacked.

As this seemed to be a phenomena that affected owners across the board you would think Genesis and Hyundai might want to explain to owners as to what was the cause of this problem.

Or it might have been their development methodology of continuous integration and continuous delivery with automated user acceptance testing where developers just push things into production via their pipeline whenever they want. You have to think more agile and stop siloing. This is the price of progress, or progressivism, I'm not really sure. :slapself:

Interesting. So far, from what I can tell, those with the latest USB update have not experienced this.
That may be true as I do not have the latest USB update.

That is quite possible. I've worked on major software projects for over 40 years now, and the current trend of continuous build/integration chains has caused no end of headaches. Half-baked updates get approved by half-competent testers (or poorly written test harnesses), and the wheels fall off the wagon.

So I spoke with Genesis Cares just now. I feel bad for the phone clerks who have to handle the calls. She couldn’t apologize enough. I commented it wasn’t her fault. She said that it was not a hack, but bad software. As of right now, Hyundai/Genesis is offering a month free on connected services as compensation or at least that was what the phone tech said she could offer. That might be OK for users whose contracts have expired or are close to expiring, but it means little to me as I’m just at the beginning of my complimentary period. IMO, they need to do better for the hours of wasted time that need to be spent re-inputting all the lost data. I’m in IT and in this day and age, screwups like this should never happen. Heads need to roll at Hyundai/Genesis and they need to make sure something like this never happens again.

From what I have read elsewhere, if you did not drive your car on Saturday when this all went down, you will be fine. But, it only took be about 30 minutes to build my profile back up and I learned a few things along the way. I use Google for navigation so all that data was on my phone so I did not lose all my locations. That will be difficult for those of you that use the built in navigation.

It’s not just the Nav…it’s the lost phone pairings, different seat, mirror, and steering wheel position settings on two profiles, lots of radio presets, the fingerprint registration, and the many little convenience settings that can be in two profiles. Those all have to be re-entered. And if you have a finicky second driver like I do, it can take more than a few minutes to get everything right again. Happy it only took you half an hour. I only wish it would be that little for me.

Whether you drove your car Saturday, or didn't would have made no difference. I waited until Sunday and nothing had been restored in my 2023 GV70 (our other GV70 was not affected). It took me a lot of time to set my car up again, fingerprint, passcode, re-pair my iPhone, reprogram all radio stations, go through every menu and reconfigure/set all the settings to where I had meticulously set them up the first time around. At least I was already familiar with all the settings. None-the-less, none of us should have had to go through this.

I see people saying this had to be some issue with over the air updates. I kept waiting for an OTA on both our cars. Called Genesis multiple times asking when we'd get them. It wasn't until Friday, that one of the customer care people realized we hadn't accepted the OTA update terms and conditions (who knew one had to do that?). And they had to send a link for us to accept them. Only the link doesn't work, so we hadn't yet accepted OTA, and yet my cars settings were wiped clean. So I don't think this was an OTA gone wrong.

I think Genesis owes every one of us a personal apology and some compensation for our time, which was wasted. Reconfiguring everything in car, was not on my list of to do's for the weekend, that's for sure.

Unfortunately, it has been and it will remain radio silence from Genesis about this whole problem. I love the car, not so much them. IF they don't get their act together, they are going to blow their reputation for years.

I don't have or know about his fingerprint thing, but all that other stuff took me about 30 minutes. I just went through the setup menu one line item at a time. I had one issue getting the digital numbers for speed between my two wheels on the dash, but got help here. Repairing my phone took about 30 seconds and my digital key and remote settings from the app and from the web page remained intact. Again, if I had lost my locations in the map program, that would have taken some time to rebuild. Another thing you mentioned were the radio presets. I don't use them either. I use Android auto for all my music. So that would be an additional pain. Also, I am retired, so I have the extra time, but if I was strapped for time, I would be real angry.
My wife does not have a profile in my car, as I think she only drove it once. But I feel your pain there
I have read on these fourms where people have lost connectivity and such all the time, and when it happened on Saturday, I just figured it was my turn. I came her for help trying to get my speedometer back and found out it was a pretty big outage.
I just hope this is the last of it and it does not happen again. If this happens next week, there will be smoke coming out of everybody's ears.
I hope you get back up and running again soon.

I just spoke with Genesis as now my iPhone App for Connected Services isn't working. It says I haven't updated in 22 YEARS. I was on the app yesterday. This seems to happen to me about every other month. So I know the hold the two outermost buttons until the screen goes dark, then reconnect to Connected Services, but it happens too often. This coupled with wiping out our cars settings and it's just bad tech.

Of course the Agent I spoke with was appropriately apologetic, but they said they aren't compensating us for anything. Nor is there evidently any communication coming from Genesis to at least acknowledge their mess or apology. I agree they need to get their act together. I simply love driving my GV70. The tech however, leaves much to be desired.

I had the same thing happen this weekend 2023 G70. also had my HUD switch to Korean so there's that. glad to see that his is likely some automated update issue rather than a glitch in my individual vehicle.

Thinking if I don't turn the car on, won't happen. Or maybe it's just an excuse to apply some horsepower to the streets of NJ!
Last used Friday, all was fine. Started my GV80 about 9AM Monday and everything was still fine and as I left it and I enjoyed using the Vee for the weekend. :D

My GV60 with the latest update was not affected, thankfully. My Kona EV was affected, with both profiles removed and all preferences wiped.

I had my GV80 computer rebooted and updated nine days ago and a few days ago all the settings cleared once again, back to factory default besides, the issue of re-having to do all the settings manually the where the speedometer in between the two Diles rate normally read the mileage per hour it no longer states anything it just has a picture of the GV80 and we cannot remove it so does it have to be updated with the computer again but this is getting ridiculous

Go to YouTube and search setting speedometer GV80 and see if that helps.

I had my front passenger door panel replaced (Leather was coming undone from the panel) at the dealer when this happened. I almost went in to complain but figured tech reset something due to messing with the speakers.

1 Month old GV70 manually installed May update.

So, after all of this re-entering of profile info, we still cannot get the vehicle digital speed to remain on the display. This applies to both driver 1 and 2. Anyone having similar issues? Does anyone know of a solution?
