If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Maximum USB Storage Size

I have been using a 128G USB stick without issue, but it only has about 5k tunes on it. I had made a limited one to work with the Q70 when I thought that was what I was getting. After not finding anything in the Genesis manual, I emailed Hyundai and got a reponse that there were no known limits to number of files, it was only limited by the available space. They did also specify:

- Only MP3 and WMA files with compression rates between 8 Kbps and 320 Kbps can be played; files that are not standard format files (MP3 or WMA) will not be played.
- Encoded MP3 Players will not be recognized when connected as an external device.
- Only USB devices formatted as FAT 12/16.32 are supported, and the "NTFS" file system is not supported.

I will be copying my entire library over tonight and see how it handles 15K files. Of note though, I have a 5.0 ultimate and I know the audio system is different on non ultimate models.

I was able to use my 128GB USB Drive in my car. I have about 30GB of music and a couple of 720p videos and it played fine.

It also does resume the song that was playing, when you restart the car.

2 questions then - will it read all 64GB of music (or 60+?) and does it resume the last song played once you get back into your car? Any trouble with the incorrect artwork showing or the inability to change tracks (like with the regular ipod?)

I presently have 45 GB of music on a 64 GB iTouch. Everything operates perfectly.
When I stop the music on the iTouch for any reason including turning the ignition off, it resumes play when restarting from the exact spot it was stopped.
I have artwork stored in my iTunes library that is correct for each CD. When using the iTouch, that artwork does not always appear. Sometimes, for reasons I cannot explain, different cover art will appear on the iTouch but the correct art work always seems to appear on the center display in the vehicle.
Changing tracks is done flawlessly. To do so, I can change tracks via the iTouch itself, the touch screen, the center console control wheel or the up/down toggle on the left side of the steering wheel. Note that the steering wheel toggle changes tracks only within the selected artist.
Hope this helps.

IOStream - I think you will find tonight that it only reads up to about 32 GB of music. For me it was just south of 6k songs. I tried this with a 64GB thumb drive, factory formatted with FAT32. It will not read exFAT or NTFS.

CTK - You're under the 32GB limitation, so of course it's working just fine. Take 5GB of your songs and copy them to a new folder on the drive - the Genesis won't see all of them.

ep010835 - When I use either ipod, I cannot control it from the ipod itself - it reads "Hyundai" on the front of the ipod. So the touch is different then? Which touch are you using?

I also had about 10 1080p(about 20GB) movies on there and it saw them fine, it wont play them tho cause the resolution is too high.

But I will make a new folder and put more MP3s in there.

Initially I tried using a 64GB iPod. It just plain did not work. It would freeze up and constantly need restarting. I abandoned the iPod in the same way I did the USB jump drives. Nothing worked all the time every time until I broke down and bought an iTouch. The model # of the one I bought is MD750LL/A.I use it with the lightening to USB cable supplied with the device. I plug it into the USB jack beneath sliding cover, close the cover then forget about it. The only time I'll actually make physical contact with the device is when I want to scan it to look for something new to listen to. I just like the visual interface provided by the iTouch. Not so much the visual on the screen of the vehicle.

Interesting, yes it limited to exactly 6K songs. I don't know what size that would have been, but I am guessing actual size isn't a limitation. If it can read the filesystem, it can read all of it. I am guessing it is a database limitation. In fact I should have checked the folder view, I bet it could see everything. Unfortunately I just reformatted the key and started copying back my original subset.

I have a similar key in my wifes Enclave capped to just under 10K songs to meet their limits, I guess I can try it out tonight.

I have about 40 GB on a 64 GB flash drive, and it can read all of the songs. However, I only have about 4,000 songs.

I had all kinds of problems trying to use my 160 GB iPod Classic. It would repeatedly freeze, wouldn't restart where it left off, and would only play the songs in alphabetical order instead of track order.

Any updates from any of you? I was absolutely mystified and quite angry that I couldn't use my 120GB iPod Classic like I can/could with my other cars. Went out and bought a 128GB flash drive after reading somewhere else on the forum that this would work, but only to see that it won't here (with my 10,000+ songs). I'm pretty disgruntled!!

Sorry if this has been discussed before but does anyone know what the maximum USB size is on the Genesis? I'm thinking of getting a USB 256GB stick which would fit most of my albums on to it.

Just didn't want to purchase something and it not work..

Thanks in advance.

Dave
THERE SEEMS TO BE A LIMIT OF 5999 files on the Genesis

The problem is that the firmware for the ALL the units only supports the FAT32 file system. FAT32 has some limits. No file greater than 4 GB, and a partition larger than 32GB is going to have problems. You can read about this here:https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938432.aspx You can create an 8 TB partition with FAT32, but a great deal of it will be unusable space with very large clusters. You can read about this https://www.howtogeek.com/73178/what-file-system-should-i-use-for-my-usb-drive/

It's amazing that a 2010 Toyota will read a 64 GB memory stick and all files while my new 2015 Ultimate car will:
Not resume ipod songs after you restart the car
Is limited to 32GB for thumb drives

How Hyundai made a car that will nearly drive itself but still can't get 10+ year old Ipod technology working properly is beyond me.
My 2013 Genesis easily accommodates 128GB USB. It doesn't care about the size as long as the files/folders limitations are met.

With a six disk changer in the dash I'm thinking to just burn a few disks as wma retaining the sound quality and avoiding the frustration of usb. The entertainment system is already flaky on my 2012 Type R. Sometime is turns on sometimes I just wants to stay on the warning screen. I can always get audio so I'm thinking at least with a disk I'll be able to make it reliable.
