So for those that don't know, I'm person with G70 joyride at a Genesis dealership in Augusta, GA. I posted the video and I later found out about the 2 culprits. Male is the mechanic who was just recently hired prior to the incident. Female is his wife. She has been there for several years. She was also the one who called him wondering where my car was initially and standing outside as he pulled back in.

I did not know at the time but I have history with these 2. Back in September 2020, I was away at the beach. On the day we were coming back, my card gets declined at a restaurant. Apparently, it was used for 900$ at a stored called Hibbett Sports. Bank blocked it and I called Hibbett Sports to make sure it did not go through. I found out that it was used in a particular store in a plaza across from my house. Weird huh? So when we got back into town, I stopped by the store just to double check everything was good (because why not? It's right there). When I explained the situation to the clerk, she goes "Wait, you're 'X'? That guy over there has been claiming to be you all day, wondering where his stuff was to pick up. He's been in and out about a dozen times today" The wife was standing right next to me and overhearing this, they dip. The male, the female, and 3 kids. As I was trying to catch their license plate, the guy runs away from the car, leaving his wife and 3 kids. The car was dead. I wanted to just let it go but I called the cops. She was sitting inside the car, chain smoking with the kids inside too. I felt bad kind of (For the kids. I'm a pediatrician), but I was also a bit surprised that I caught them. Cop informs me that the male suspect is well known in the city and has multiple warrants out for his arrest in multiple counties and 2 states. We do all the paperwork, even the clerk verified the story as well. The female's story was that they had no idea and the male only left on foot to go home so that he can jumpstart the car. They live 30 minute drive away.

Fast-forward to early June 2021, male joyrides my car. The female also works there but since she's not a service rep, I never had a good look at her. So I never made the connection. Service manager initially told me he was going to fire him, but didn't because basically I "didn't seem that upset" (this was before the credit card fraud connection was made). Firing him was not my idea, it was his to begin with. I'm not a Karen. I know how to respect people and not make a huge scene. After I found out, I spoke with the owner of the dealership. Do I have any proof that the female was getting other people's card information from work? No, but sure seems that way. He said he would fire both and get the local PD and lawyers involved. Promised me this would never happen again and that my next 4 tires would be free. Cool.

Late June 2021. I was away in Jacksonville, FL. My car was parked on the street in front of the AirBNB all weekend. We mostly used my friend's SUV because there were 6 of us. On the way back from the beach, the AirBNB host calls me panicking and asks if the black Tesla sedan out front is mine. I said "No, I have a black Genesis sedan that's parked out there though. What's wrong?" She replies, "Oh.... no..." The whole street flooded. When we got back, there was about 2 feet of water. I was so devastated. Insurance totaled my car eventually, paid off the remaining balance and paid me 10k. 20 payments and 6k down for the 2019 Genesis G70. Feels like a huge loss. Goodbye Genesis. Maybe I'll consider a new 2021 G70 as I was offered about 8k discount from MSRP.

Man, this story is crazy.

First the guy goes from a service tech having some fun in your G70 to a wanted criminal who stole your identity the year prior with his accomplish child endangering wife who also worked in the same dealership.

Now, your car is totaled out.

Well; you now have chance to buy a car that allows you to avoid that particular local Hyundai dealership and it shady employees.

As an aside, flooding at low level coastal areas has become more common (esp. in FL).
