  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I didn't see any posts on this.

I was going to try V2L today when I had a power outage but I needed the mechanical key to unlock the outlet port. I looked all through the huge crappy manual and found the reference to using it with a picture of it but nowhere did I find instruction on where to find it and how to remove it once found.

I had to do google research to find a Reddit post that said that the plastic thingie attached to the fob opens up by pressing the back. I did and it does. But it amazes me that there was nothing in the manual (that I could find) on where it was and how to do it.

Yeah, but once you have the little plastic cover off, how do you get the key out? I still haven't figured that out.

At least THAT part is in the OM, page 5-9. "Press the Genesis text section of the Mechanical key to remove the case."

You can also use the V2L adapter that plugs into the charge port.

All those pages in the manual and not a picture illustration.

A screwdriver, other keys, and just about anything that will fit inside the slot can be used to unlock the 120V outlet.

Doh! I was thinking the mechanical key was inside of the key fob, but it's a separate item. Thanks for the elucidation.

I did too. I even took the fob and key to the dealer so they could attach it to the fob. Seems like the fob was designed to do this but they decided to ship with the stupid key wrapped in plastic 🤷🏻‍♂️
