  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have an iPod that is approximately 5 years old. It is a large capacity and has all my music and playlists. When I plugged it in tonight for the first time (in the USB port) and pressed the media button the head unit did not show it. The media went straight to my iPhone which was in my pocket. It started streaming from the iPhone (4s). I couldn't figure out how to find the iPod with albums, artists, and playlists. I also had no real control on the iPhone for streaming. It didn't show playlists or anything to pick from. It just started streaming and showed the information for the song currently playing.

I have been reading the manual but haven't found anything to explain this. Can anyone help with instructions for how to best use the system?

Thanks!
This is a 5.0 ultimate (just got it tonight-- empire slate gray with black interiors) woo hoo!!!

First of all welcome to the Club! Second going first for the obvious: start by completely POWERING DOWN your iPhone.

Then, ASSUMING the 5.0 and the 3.8 manuals are the same - not sure - check out the "DIS Navigation System / Owner's Manual" NOT the "Owner's Manual."

iPods are specifically discussed on page 57 and connecting multiple phones on page 94.

See if reading this gives you the 411 you need.

And in my experience the dealer connected my phone for me when they went over the car's features with me.

Well, I had been using an aftermarket cable and the head unit would not recognize the iPod. I changed to the original cable and it now recognizes the iPod and will list and show the playlists etc.. However, it continually plays only the first song on the playlist. Once through that song it moves to another song but when I scroll to a different playlist and select a song it returns to the original 1st song it has been playing. Also, if I select album it only shows one or two songs and they are not correct (I.e. I select Stevie Wonder and it shows 2 Aerosmith songs.). It also looks like it is only recognizing 176 out of around 2000 songs stored. The iPod is a large capacity Classic and is fairly old. I will check the firmware but I think it is current.

Finally, my iPhone 4s streams but you have to do the selections on the phone as opposed to the car controls. Is that normal?
