I currently have my microphone volume power level set at “6” and would be very interested in knowing what the factory default level is.
I had 4 different head unit systems in my Genesis before it had 1500 miles on it. Three were new units and the 4th came out of a Genesis on the dealer’s lot. The response to voice commands was great for the first two head units, and the car was in the shop for the one day the 3rd head unit was in it so I never had a chance to try it. The fourth unit which is still in the car now, was extremely poor in responding to voice commands. I could call my wife, but only after several tries and the navigation did not work at all. I thought the unit was malfunctioning, but did not want to go back to the dealer AGAIN.
I learned from information provided on this board that the “Frequently Used Commands” menu was driven by the user. And the reason that I had no “Go Home” button was that I had never had a “Go Home” command that understood by navigation system. I was finally able to get a successful “Go Home” command after many tries while parked with the heating system off.
I finally realized that the problem I was having was caused by the microphone volume being set to high, a control feature that I had not had in a car before. It is so obvious now, but I had no idea how to adjust the microphone volume power level. I searched all the menus and the manuals but could find nothing.
I decided just to push the “Talk” button on the steering wheel and then try adjusting the volume – and it worked. My power level was set to “18” and the “power level” display bar was at the half way mark with no input. I adjusted the power level so that the bar stayed just below maximum while I was speaking and all my voice commands are understood the first time now.
A very cool feature that I found during this testing was that the car automatically turns the fan speed down when the “Talk” button is pushed to reduce the ambient noise and give the car a better chance of understating the commands.
