Crazy question but its been on my mind. Is it possible to have the 2017 Genesis key FOB programmed to 2015 or 2016 Genesis? For some reason I dig the way the 17's look opposed to the 15 and 16's FOB.

Assuming that it could be done, would you pay about $350 for parts and labor to do it?

LOL maybe or either Ebay something for the low.

Even if you buy one on eBay, you still need someone to cut the physical key and program the keyfob. Most likely that would be a dealer, and would cost quite a bit of money.

Just out of curiosity, when do you ever look at the car key? Mine is in my pocket, then in my hands for 10 seconds when it goes from one pair of pants pockets into another pair of pants pockets ... I couldn't tell you what my key looks like if you asked me to describe it. Black with a few buttons I guess, just like any other car key?

That's what I've had on both my 2013 Sonata and my 2015 Genesis. In fact I got the bright orange cover for my Genesis so it's less likely to be lost and sure makes it easy to identify.

AustinTX, notice the tread says," Might be crazy but.." but I hear where your coming its just they improved on the key FOB looks which doesn't mean anything but nice looking.

If it wasn't too expensive I would pick up the 2017 fob as well. When I test drove a 2017 I really liked the weight and look of the newer fob over the 15-16. I was kind of disappointed when I then drove the 16 and it had a different fob. The 17 feels more like a premium item but some might not like the added weight.

The new fob looks awesome. Is the fob less plasticky?

Yes, the new fob frame is metal and matches the aluminum trim in the car. Its a nice clean look.

ok, thats actually pretty neat, I like the idea just from the standpoint that it will keep the fob nice and shiny which, if selling to a private party for example, might be perceived as a reflection of how well the car might have been maintained.

Now sure if $250 x 2 = $500 plus the cost of reprogramming is worth it. I'd go with the silicone covers suggested above.
