  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Title. Just had this happen today with the drivers mirror twice. After shifting out of reverse, it doesn’t return to the original position and stays tilted down.

Anyone else had this issue? I have a 3.8 2015 sedan. Haven’t had this issue until today. Seems to be intermittent.

How can I fix this? It seems to be a computer glitch and gremlin (and boy does this car have many of these)

Yep it was a known issue on the DH series. I can't speak for the newer ones after the body change. Disable the reverse tilt-down by putting the mirror selector switch in the middle. It always tipped it down too far to be of any use to me anyhow. Do it the old fashioned way.

Do you know of way to fix this? Or is it just a computer glitch?

This car has so many of those weird glitches.

It is likely a mechanical glitch & byproduct of using a stepper motor with not enough gear reduction. As I said - the best way to fix it is to disable it by putting the L/R mirror switch into the middle. You can still lean forward a bit to see down in the mirror, plus you ahve the backup cam.

Ah so it’s not a computer glitch then?

Weirdly enough it was working today just fine.

I offer an alternate theory for the problem, but I have no evidence to back it up.
I think that the issue may be that the POTs that provide position feedback for the mirror up/down and left/right positions may get a little "noisy" in their old age, and the software stops moving the servos/DC motors (I doubt they are stepper motors, but again I have no proof) when the mirror position reading becomes implausible, even if only momentarily. It's a little annoying that the software doesn't do a few retries instead of just stopping, but I do understand that this can get way more complicated than you would think.

Placing the mirror switch in the middle position does not fix this, but it does prevent it from happening in the first place. Of course, this is not great if you are wanting to use the tilt down in reverse feature.
Once the mirror(s) has been left in the tilt down position, is it restored to the correct position if you press the seat memory button for your position? (You may have to shift to park for this to work.)

I had a different brand car that after about 200K miles and ten years would sometimes not move the mirror all the way to where it was supposed to be. (This got more often as time and miles went by.) I could eventually get the mirrors to where they were supposed to be by pressing the memory button multiple times. Note that they always moved when pressing the manual up/down left/right joystick. I do know for a fact that on this car the problem was the position feedback potentiometers, and not the motors or a mechanical issue (unless you count the potentiometers as mechanical).

You can adjust the mirror when it's in the "down" position if you think it's too low or high etc. Try doing this to see if it might jar it loose or something.

What’s interesting is that just pressing the memory button in park won’t move it. However, once I move it up a bit manually with the mirror button, then pressing the memory button will return the mirror to the original position. Very strange.
