  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey so my 2010 Genesis Sedan 3.8L V6, has been having misfires, and the check engine light keeps coming then blinking, going back to just being on.

I am getting the spark plugs changed, and possibly the coils. Is the spark plugs and coil the cause most likely.. my car is currently at the shop. I am not there my girlfriend was driving the car today when it happened. I was wondering if anyone has any other suggestion as to why this may be happening? About 7 weeks about I had the coil 5 and plug switched and replaced, because it happened then. The car begins to shake like a dang earthquake and its very frustrating. I was curious if anyone else experienced this problem..? My car has 112k miles on it.. I got it with 89k about 11 months ago. I have put a decent amount of highway miles on it.

Please let me know what you guys have done, or if I am doing the right correct thing.

Thanks !

It's obviously throwing a CEL code or two, do you know what they are?
Misfires could be coils, crankshaft position sensor, throttle position sensor etc.

Its a cylinder 5 misfire, so my shop switched cylinder 3 & 5s coils to see if its the coil. Told my girlfriend to drive it again and come back if it flips on again. I just had cylinder 5 coil and plug replaced that was the exact one causing issues before.

Could very well be that. Did you get the codes read?

I did yes, it was a misfire so he switched coil 3 & 5, and then they said if it comes back and isnt a coil misfire in 3, it could be an injector so today I am having him replace all plugs and clean the injectors just to be safe because we drove the car about 50 miles last night with no code showing up... so hopefully with the new plugs and cleaned injectors we will be good to go. If not, and the misfire comes to coil 3, the shop that initially replaced the coil5 and plug like 6 weeks ago will replace it again no cost, but i need to wait and see if the codes appears again.

So, what was the conclusion of this issue? It's been many years.

I wish people simply followed up as to what happened eventually. So, we all could learn from.
