  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello guys! A question: Drove over something that damaged underside of my car and ... without going into details ... we ended up removing the splashguard so ... if I drive her on wet roads occasionally for a month or two how much damage will I do to her? Note I'm leasing her so I'm not looking to pay to fix it if I'm going to turn her in at the end of those months but let it be covered under my Extended Wear and Tear Warranty.

Thanks! Alley

Should be fine. Mostly there for aerodynamics.

Huh. Wouldn't have thought of that. Thank you!

Just so it's clear as I'm a n00b as to car parts: what I mean is a part another friend called a faring but I don't think so. It's a ... black ... sheet ... kind of thing, a flat square-ish maybe piece of either plastic or plasticized board or something that was bolted on under the engine to the underside of the car a few inches behind the bumper. I was assuming it was a splashguard for the engine by purpose if not name, intended to keep salt and other road detritus from coating the wires and engine and soaking it when driving through a puddle. Do I have the right thing and purpose?

Do you mean this? These photos are of the underside of the vehicle from about the front passenger compartment forward to the front of the car.

It's hard to tell as I had Hyundai dispose of it, but I'd say yes! Precisely the part. A) do you know what it's called; B) what the Part No. is, and C) how indispensable it is? Quickly: answer now, now NOW! No. Kidding. But any and all information would be appreciated. Alley

The part is there for a reason, whether it be aero or engine protection. I'd also be wary about this part being covered by your 'Extended wear & tear Warranty'. To me this may not qualify as it likely comes under the same category as body damage - assuming they notice of course. My recommendation is to find a used replacement if you can.

Hyundai calls this an "under cover" which I guess is accurate even if not the way we usually use those words together. The individual pieces run about $190 each.
