  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I went to the local Charlotte annual car show, dealer sponsored. Mitsubishi dealer had a vehicle on the street in line with others for the test drive option for interested visitors. The sign on the windshield said 20 year/200,000 mile warranty. HAH! Sure why not. Maybe 30 years.

My ‘22 Tucson has a 20/200,000 powertrain warranty. It’s the local dealer’s incentive gimmick. Sure, the dealer could fold, but they’ve been around a long time and Hyundai is one of the best selling brands that they sell in town.

As a lawyer, I'd love to read the fine print of that warranty. HAHAHAHahahahhahah

After no annual show last year the resumption of local dealer sponsored displays was disappointing, though not unexpected. Not represented: VW Audi, MB, Volvo, Hyundai, Genesis, Buick, Chrysler, Mini, Acura. A few Subaru, Honda but not full line. Kia well represented. Trucks, trucks. Duke energy, the regional utility, had a mock-up of a home charging point for electric vehicles and a Duke person answered questions about electric charger installations and operation. He said Duke has (will?) request from the state a 1000$ credit (rebate?, discount?) for such installations but this will be well into the future if at all as we know how these thing operate.
I test drove a Kia Niro EV and Duke Energy fleet staff were on site to answer questions since they use four Niro in their fleet and other EV vehicles as well. Change is coming.

Original owners only, of course. Few folks would ever keep a vehicle that long anyway. By then, all the other broken-down AND obsolete components not covered would be driving you crazy.

About twenty years ago, a local dealership had been advertising Free Tires for Life. (Of course owner had to get tires and alignment checked every xx months or every xxxx miles with owner paying for the inspection).

Well, dealership got sold. Few weeks later, guy came in with tire problems. Had all his receipts from previous inspections. New owners would not honor the “Free Tires for Life” from previous owner. Said it was from previous owner, not them.

Car owner hired a good lawyer and sued dealership. Judge sided with car owner. Said new dealership owner took over the liabilities from the old dealership owner. Dealership had to pay Court costs, lawyer fees, car owner plus car owner still got his tires replaced free. 👍

I worked a short stint for a Kia dealer that offered the 20/200k warranty. The stipulations to keep that warranty were ridiculous. All maintenance had to be done by them, and you better not go over your miles on an oil change or it's all null and void. Pretty much anything they recommended maintenance wise had to be done, or the warranty was gone, so you ended up paying for it in the long run.

There is a local Toyota dealer that offers the same program.

After my test drive of a Kia Niro EV I searched online for such a vehicle and saw something interesting. At least two vehicles were for sale with 600-2000 miles. New, really. I think someone has decided to buy or lease an EV, take the 7500$ credit and then resell the vehicle and recoup their purchase price, plus perhaps more, plus the juicy credit. Nice work if you can get it.
(Do I understand the Federal tax credit correctly?)
