Hi there!

Just wanted to say hi to everyone and share my feelings about my recent purchase.
I came from Audi A4 and wanted a bit softer and bigger vehicle with luxury features...
I got '15 Genny Luxury (3.8 lambda) about a week ago and here are my biggest usability dislikes:

- Being a music fan, I store big music collection on 64Gb USB stick, and navigating it on Genesis is such a PITA!!!
It's missing a 'return' button to navigate upper level in the tree. It's neither on the steering wheel, nor on the dash/console.
I have to reach the screen in order to go a level up. While I'm 6 feet tall, it's still a big pain...
A very simple and frequently used function just became a biggest discomfort for me.

- sound settings are very limited for the quality of the speakers. I think I had better sound overall in my previous Audi

- having an issue with the sun reflected from the edge of the hood closer to windshield..

- many people already mentioned poorly calibrated 'delayed' response from transmission. Totally agree.

- The shift Knob occasionally pinches my ring finger

- "Passenger Air Bag" light is total mess.. It's a very bright orange light that is not controllable by interior light dimming function.
Totally ridiculous and very disturbing. Had to cover it with 5% tint film..

- Whenever I start the car, I have a warning screen with Agree/Disagree disclaimer.. F%$ck, it's getting disturbing. Does anyone know if it's possible to disable it?

- I find auto-folding mirrors very useful, but they are unfolding/folding every time I pass by my car.. I don't know the reason of it, I think it would be more practical to
unfold them when the engine starts or driver opens the door. Maybe it's required for displaying the welcome 'Genesis' foot light, but it looks like there is a separate config for that

- screen doesn't always return to where it was after engine restarts ...

- My rear climate controls don't work. No air blown from the rear vents.. When I looked at the 'Climate settings', the 'Rear Climate Controls' option is disabled and I can't enable it.
Contacted the dealer, they told that they have to order a part in order to enable it. Haven't heard from them for a week...

Also, folks, don't expect 'premium' customer support from Hyundai. With Audi, it was nearly impeccable, with Hyundai I started to feel a big difference both in service and vehicle usability.

I still like my Genny, but keep questioning myself whether I did the right thing choosing this fake Korean Bentley :)

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Well no car is perfect but frankly a lot of your issues either are not issues or are a bit picky. Airbag light too bright? Your life must be very easy if that is a real issue for you to call out, no offense.

For example the "i agree" screen does automatically go away without you having to do anything, it just takes a few seconds. The mirrors folding out happens if the car is locked and you walk by it with your keys. Realistically how often are you walking by your locked car but not getting in?? If in the garage for example I never lock the car so the mirrors are not constantly folding.

The climate has to be on to select rear controls, is it in Auto and you still can't check the box? if so then something is wrong.

As far as music I'd recommend if you are an iphone user just have the songs on your phone then use Siri functionality to select the songs. Very simple and you never have to take your eyes off the road. The stereo quality admittedly is not great, if you are an audiophile why did you not get the top end radio? It is significantly better than the 14 speaker version. I have the tech package and find the radio acceptable, not great.

Does the Genny have some minor gripes? Sure...every car does. And yeah, my mirrors flap like dog ears when I walk by, and the trunk sensor causes the horn to start honking as well. And I agree the file navigation code was written by my drunk uncle.

But for the amount of car I got for the money, I can live with it. And every time my brother calls me to bitch about his A4 and the slew of things that have gone wrong with it (on its 3rd engine, leaking sunroof blew up computers, cooling fan blown, etc), I am even more happy with it.

- Being a music fan, I store big music collection on 64Gb USB stick, and navigating it on Genesis is such a PITA!!!

Life is better with folders. I sort my music on the car's drive and on my USB's the same way I do on my music server: Genre / Artist / Album / Song. Works like a charm.

It's missing a 'return' button to navigate upper level in the tree.

Audi has been known to put decent components in their cars... but that being said I am quite happy with my 17 speaker HK/JBL/Infinity/Lexicon system that came in the car. It needs a tad more bottom end, and the tweets are just a little bit harsh... but barrin those 2 easily correctable items - no complaints.

- having an issue with the sun reflected from the edge of the hood closer to windshield..

Perhaps a tall person issue? Though I am only 5'10" - I keep my seat up pretty high. So high that I lose the green steering wheel in the HUD sometimes. Reflection has never bothered me.

- many people already mentioned poorly calibrated 'delayed' response from transmission. Totally agree.

Almost any auto-stick-paddle that is more touring than sport suffers from this. It is the electronics controlling it - not the trans itself. This is not a sports car and personally I do not understand why they put 3 different trans controllers in it. Put it in drive and go.

- The shift Knob occasionally pinches my ring finger

Use your trigger finger instead. At most - only 2 fingers should be on the shifter knob. There isn't room for more.

- "Passenger Air Bag" light is total mess.. It's a very bright orange light that is not controllable by interior light dimming function.
Totally ridiculous and very disturbing. Had to cover it with 5% tint film..

Never noticed this. You might have a bulb that is about to go bad. Mine is bright enough to see in the daylight and it dims at night or when the lights are turned on.

- Whenever I start the car, I have a warning screen with Agree/Disagree disclaimer.. F%$ck, it's getting disturbing. Does anyone know if it's possible to disable it?

USDOT regulation for almost a decade. After starting, belting, confirming mirrors and letting the car warm up a quick few seconds - the warning screen goes away. Mine is never more than about 10 seconds and then it goes away.

- I find auto-folding mirrors very useful, but they are unfolding/folding every time I pass by my car.. I don't know the reason of it, I think it would be more practical to unfold them when the engine starts or driver opens the door. Maybe it's required for displaying the welcome 'Genesis' foot light, but it looks like there is a separate config for that

Disable the auto-fold. Yes - in order for the puddle-light to shine correctly the mirrors need to unfold as you approach. If you are walking around your car that much - leave your keys somewhere else. The same thing will happen if you are walking behind your car with the auto trunk as well.

- screen doesn't always return to where it was after engine restarts ...

Mine does, every time. Warranty item.

Known warranty issue with the switch - and the dealer is blowing smoke saying it has to be enabled.

Also, folks, don't expect 'premium' customer support from Hyundai. With Audi, it was nearly impeccable, with Hyundai I started to feel a big difference both in service and vehicle usability.

This comes from Hyundai being more of a budget brand. You paid quite a bit extra for that treatment with Audi. Until they split out the Genesis dealers into their own entity this will continue because of the rest of the Hyundai product line. Also keep in mind that while it will be better than Hyundai - it will probably not be as good as Audi. But again - this comes with paying for it. Do I really need sparkly marble floors, leather seats and frilly coffee while I wait for my oil change? Not so much... so I have no problems not paying extra into the car for it.
I still like my Genny, but keep questioning myself whether I did the right thing choosing this fake Korean Bentley :)
Depends completely upon your price point. What are the little things worth to you? What few nuances I have found with my 2015 were not at all worth forking much extra dough to one of the Germans for - and that's coming from a 2x former 7 series owner.

Regarding the rear climate controls... make sure that the system is in auto, and the rear vents are open. There are 2 wheel controls on the back console. If the airflow is shut down, the control will be grayed out on the front screen. It took me a few minutes to figure that out. You could also have a bad switch, but check the controls out first.

Agreed.
This stumped me at first until I started fiddling with the rear control knobs.
Starting to think that the techs at the dealer are not aware of this and want to order parts as their initial diagnosis.

The car doesn't realize you're not entering it when you walk by. It is part of the welcome feature that activates the lamps and mirrors. Sorry your car isn't smart or intuitive enough to discern your every move. To me, aside from the fair air which may or may not be user error, your points seem to simply be a difference between brands kinda thing to me.

But when they (auto industry writers) compare this car, and favorably o might add, to the likes of Lexus, Mercedes and Audi or BMW and optioned out similarly comes in $20 odd thousand dollars less expensive...ill take it every time.

The transmission doesn't seem delayed to me and shifts are barely perceptible. This car is biased towards luxury/comfort not sport/performance, so perhaps you aren't in the correct vehicle or brand.

The stereo issue could easily have been resolved had you sprung for the Ultimate trim which has the hard drive to upload your songs and gives you various sort options.

So VW/Audi doesn't have a warning screen for its Nav system? Maybe they bypassed that law too while they were screwing over millions of people with false claims and purposefully rigging their Diesel engines to fool the world into believing their cars were more efficient and cleaner burning than they were.

Some of my favorite features of the Genesis include but aren't limited to, the sound system, power folding mirrors, automatic trunk opener/closer all-day comfy seats and supple leather and the tech features for safety including the Dynamic Cruise Control and cross-traffic alert system. The handy pull down bag holder in the trunk is a slice of genius heaven too.

First time I have ever heard of a warning light described as total mess / ridiculous / very disturbing.

Also the first time I have ever heard of anyone window tinting a warning light.

I can't say I've ever noticed the warning light much less been driven bonkers by it.

As for transmission delay, the only time I notice it at all is on max throttle launches from a dead stop - which is not something I do on a very regular basis. Beyond that the transmission responsive and very, very smooth - a significant overall positive in my assessment.

The shift knob pinches your finger? Really? Has anyone else ever experienced that?

Frankly, this whole post reminds me why customer satisfaction surveys can be a bit skewed.

As for premium customer support - well, it's a lot more variable with Hyundai - granted. I am fortunate because my dealership is VERY service oriented - all customers are treated with professionalism and respect and it matters to them that you are happy with your car. Which is kind of the way I think it should be. There are no catered lunches or massaging lounge chairs in the service waiting area but I have my car serviced while I'm at work and a ride to and from the train station is all that I require. Frankly, I'd rather save a pile of money up front than spend it subsidizing the coddling suckup experience for those whose egos require constant stroking.

Conversely, I have two office colleagues who drive Mercedes and report that the service experience totally sucks and that they are viewed as little more than walking wallets by the dealership. And that's two different dealerships. While Lexus seems to consistently hit the mark at treating their customers exceptionally well, there is variability among the German brands in this regard as well.

Appreciate your comments guys! :)

Totally understand some of your 'self-protective' notes, I was just expressing my own feelings and the intention was to help Hyundai to wrinkle out some of the weird things and really pull this car into a premium market, especially if they are aiming for German car adepts :)

There are certainly workarounds for almost anything. Yes, perhaps I can sit as low as possible and glare from the hood will disappear, but the point is that I want to sit exactly as I feel comfortable, right? the same applies to the shift knob button, and the 'poison orange' air bag light. It's very disturbing if you drive at night with no passenger. And what's that important about it to make it that bright and out of control of the dimming?
To summarize, it's all about ergonomics, usability and comfort. If some of you do not care about it, then you probably don't need a luxury car :)

And yes, everything gets known by comparison. So, if some of the Mercedes folks complaining about their service, just let them try Hyundai :)

I have played with rear climate all the possible ways, it just doesn't work and I can't enable it from the 'Settings' menu.
@Srobak: Thank you so much for your helpful comments. Can you please point me to any extra info regarding the 'known warranty issue with the switch' you mentioned?
I regret that I didn't buy a 'Tech Trim' instead, looks like it has 'Back' button in the middle console... Thought it should be somewhere there for all trims. And I'm already readjusting myself to use only 2 fingers with the shift knob! :)

Thanks everyone and happy driving!

I too, have mixed feelings about the car.
For the past 12 years, I've had a number of Mercedes E350's and, I decided it was time for something different.
I like the way the Genesis looks, and decided to take it for a "test drive".
It did surprise me, and decided for the price they gave me, it was worth a shot.
I have a 2016 Htrac with signature package.
This is what I don't like:
Lexicon system is really lacking in tone quality, in regards to low end. The satellite radio sounds like AM radio, and FM isn't much better.
I have my Ipod plugged in to the USB port, with the EQ settings on "bass boost".
Some of the songs sound fine but, for the most part, unless the system is really cranked up, it is sorely lacking (for my taste).
The day I picked up the car, I drove 10 miles from the dealership, and had to turn around. As soon as I hit the brakes on the highway, the steering wheel, and car shook. They had to cut the rotors because, they were warped.
When I put the sunroof in the "pop up" position, there's a knocking noise that sounds like it's coming from the back. Dealer has told me that it's a "known" issue, and it's the sunroof banging against the roof, when the body of the car is flexed. They have to pull out the headliner, complete roof (both panels), send it out to a glass shop, and then replace the movable portion of the sunroof. He told me the fix takes them around 3 weeks.
Voice command for navigation is terribly slow. I just don't bother with it anymore, and use Waze on my phone.
Rear camera resolution is just "OK" but, can really be much better.
The other issue I have seems to be the car just doesn't track properly around turns.
I am primarily a highway driver, and coming around bends in the road, the car oversteers, terribly.
First time it happened, it scared the crap out of me.
As you are coming into a bend, as you turn the steering wheel, the car feels like it doesn't want to come out of it, and actually feels like the car is being pushed deeper into the turn.
I had a friend drive the car that works for BMW, and he told me that he thinks the rear wheels maybe out of alignment or, there's something wrong with the steering rack.
All the people at the dealership service center, are actually pretty good.
While it is certainly a "different" experience than what I was getting at Benz, it's tolerable (at this point).
I know the car is not a Benz nor, a BMW but, I have to say, in my opinion, the build quality is nowhere near either of them, nor is the quality control.
While it's true that the Genesis give you a lot for the money, they still have a long way to go.

A fair number of 2015 & 2016 owners have reported this issue. Not sure if it is related to the Hankook tire swap. Maybe caused by not torqueing the wheels properly, which seems unlikely if done at factory, but could have been done improperly by HMA at port of entry or at dealer if they swapped out the defective Hankooks.

I assume you checked the tire pressure? If PSI is OK (about 33-35 PSI cold pressure), then the problem could be related to the torqueing problem I mentioned above.

I never let a dealer mess with my tires or wheels. I take it to a shop like Discount Tire or Costco, where they are careful to tighten the lug nuts properly so it does not warp the rotors or warp the wheels.

Seems like many of your issues are ergonomic. Not every car fits everybody.

I have had misgivings about every new car that I've ever bought. Some valid; some buyers' remorse. Your comments "sound" like you bought the wrong car for your wants/needs many of which should have been evident on a test drive.

I had a 2005 Mb E320 cdi. I loved the car until the SBC braking system went out with no warning after a fixed number of brake applications; and no, that don't have a meter that tells you have many applications you have left nor do you have regular, un-assisted braking as MB claimed. I was fortunate to be on a flat rural road and not in the mountains or fast, heavy traffic.

As to dealer service, my dealer in Rockwall, TX has been the best of any car dealership that I've ever used; specifically including MB.

Wow. Can't say I have any of these issues. The orange light should only be on for a few seconds (see manual) so shouldn't be that big a deal. You may have been used to a sound system whose speakers were 'run-in'. Speakers always get better with initial use. I would have liked more than 3 bands on the equalizer, but other than that the sound is very good on my car. Nice and loud and solid.

While it's true that the Genesis give you a lot for the money, they still have a long way to go.

I don't recognise any of this. One of the finest features on mine is the steering. It corners like it is on rails, and the weighting of the steering wheel is superb. I turn the wheel and the response makes me feel totally under control. And the car is flat when cornering.

To say they have a long way to go is nonsense.

If there is an under-weight object in the passenger seat, the light will remain lit the entire time. USDOT regulation. But it is not bright enough to be a distraction.
