  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Mixed reliability with my 2022 G70 -- are the higher end models any better?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to get an idea of how everyone here is enjoying their Genesis vehicles, as well as determine if my experience is not the norm in terms of reliability of Genesis vehicles. I bought my 2022 Genesis G70 2.0T Prestige in November of 2021. Although I really love the design and appreciate how fun it is to drive, this car was been riddled with issues that are really been affecting my overall satisfaction with the vehicle. Here are the issues I've had with my G70:

2022
  • Steering wheel not centered (not related to alignment)
  • Air pockets in the radar cruise control plate
  • Sporadic Electronic trunk release failure, requiring manual trunk release through back seat (unresolved by dealer)
  • Black roof trim detached
  • Trunk hinges rubbing
  • Trunk strut failure, causing rear deck lid to swing open without dampening -- struts replaced by dealer
  • Severe bubbling in leather on driver side seat cushion (Forwarded to Genesis Customer Care, currently unresolved)
  • Ratting in headliner
2023
  • Trunk is still locking out from time to time.
  • Passenger side mirror does not automatically fold out (typically happens when using remote start)
  • Trunk strut failure, again.
At this point, I'm just thankful that I'm not having any issues with the drivetrain, since the 2.0T has been known to be problematic in several Hyundai-Kia vehicles. I've been considering crossing over to a different brand altogether, since these frequent issues are not what I expect from a $45-55k luxury car. However, I remind myself that the G70 is a first generation Genesis product, while the current G80, G90, GV60/70/80 are all second generation, which seem to have taken a quantum leap in terms of design and refinement (especially with interior quality).

For those of you with a G80/G90/GV60/70/80, how has your experience been? IMG_1797 2.jpg

2018 G80, now at 60K miles

1. Windshield washer hose popped loose (warranty fix)
2. ABS fuse recall (done)
3. Power trunk giving false ajar indications (dealer could not fix, fixed it myself by adjusting bump stops.)
4. AC evaporator freeze up on long trips (Fixed: was contaminated refrigerant, my expense, but minor)

I consider that as pretty reliable so far.

One year and 6,000 miles on mine and the only thing I needed was an oil change. I guess I am one of the lucky ones, but my mileage is still low.
