If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Has anyone had any issues with their moonroof closing very slow to the halfway point then opening back up like its broken? I am wondering if anyone has had this issue and has a easy fix besides going to the dealership. Here is an example i saw on youtube!

likely out of calibration.. seen it happen on other brands..

open it all the way by holding the button, then close it all the way holding the button, then open it all the way again holding the button,

then close it with a single flick of the button and see if it recalibrated and closes automatically.

the auto close feature reverses if it detects something in the way (like the head of a kid or pet), the motors are designed to reverse if too much force is exerted on them, as such they require calibration to know the start and end points of the motion to open and close.

I've seen other brands that occasionally loose that calibration due to something getting stuck in the track (leaves, branches, twigs, etc.) or power loss while the roof was in motion (opening a door while it is closing for example).

Push the button upwards and hold it down until the power roof completes a full operation cycle. That means hold it upwards until it goes up, back, forward and down. Then let go and it will be recalibrated.

I held the button forward until it opened up and tilted up but when you keep holding it nothing happens. I also held it back closed again and it didn’t work. I’m not sure what other ways there are to recalibrate it. I’m going to open it an try an take a air compressor and blow out anything that may be inside the rails

nothing is supposed to happen.. at least that you can see.

you open by continually holding the button until the full cycle is done, then you close again holding the button until the full cycle is done.

by holding the button you are telling the sunroof to calibrate the auto open/close feature (the power windows work the same way).

after this is done; you check the cycle by tapping the button and letting the auto feature fully open and fully close. If at this point it is still not fully closing, but reversing during the close cycle, there is either something blocking the track, or the motor is fatigued or worn causing the sensor to believe that there is a excess load on it, same as would happen if a hand or head got stuck in it.

at that point you may need to have a dealer check it.

I just want to clarify. I start with it closed. Then hold it forward until the shade opens and the moonroof tilts up. Then what next?

Thank you

starting closed, use the shade button to open the shade if it is not already open. DO NOT use the sunroof button.

1. push forward and hold until roof pops up into vent mode
2. pull back and hold until roof completely opens (not pop up, full open)
3. push forward and hold until roof completely closes (does not pop up into vent mode)

pull back and release to allow auto open to function
push forward and release and allow auto close to function.

if you want a video, give me a couple of hours.,

If you could do a video that would be awesome. I appreciate it.

Thank you

Ignore the double push at the end, instinctive for me as to close the shade.
I tried it. When I push it back to go back it goes very slow and struggles then when I push it forward it goes very slow until it’s close to closing then closes normal. I think something may be stuck. I’ll have to use a air compressor to try an blow it out.

Either as bigpapainscotia said it needs grease or the motor is failing.

Here's the calibration procedure

Mr. Incredible's method is to re-enable automatic operation in the event of a temporary overload condition.

Mine is doing the same thing. Trying the calibration only made it worse as it could never finish the sequence. I have not had the time to take it in but may try slapping on some lube myself.

Me too. That is going to be my next thing I try because when mine is almost close it goes normal speed which makes me thing it just needs some lubricant to make it smooth.

Try disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds (to let the capacitors discharge), then reconnect the battery and try the reset procedure again. Look in the owners manual for the procedure. Worked for me.

To be clear, this didn’t fix any rattle issues

If you did my procedure and it hung up, there are serious mechanical issues afoot, more than putting some grease in the rails can fix. You're looking at replacing tracks or the drive motor.

Crazy thing is that I never open my moonroof, only once in a blue moon.

probably why it has issues. the grease/lube in the motor hardened from not being used.

I have a 1995 runner, it had a power rear window wiper I never used, after 5+ years I went to use it one day and it failed, when I took apart the motor all the grease inside was hard as a rock.. after cleaning it all out and putting new grease in it, the motor worked great for another 10 years.

So I used a greaser it runs a lot faster now it doesn’t go slow but it’s a little rough so I think it needs a little more but progress.
