  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Moonroof Issue

I use WD-40 on the tracks. With the moon roof closed, insert the tube from the WD-40 can through the rubber seals and apply (while moving along the track). Then open the roof and apply along the tracks. Finally open and close the roof a few times to allow it to lubricate properly.

I do this once a year and it works great. No need to go to the dealer. It was my service rep who recommended I do this.

Just came from the dealer today with moon roof problems, third time. This time they said that the motors 2 of them needs to be replace and the tracks also. Good thing this a warranty item. The cost must be crazy on this. They said that this will be a all day job. The parts are on order so now I will wait for the call to bring the car in. They should have did this the first time.

Resurrecting an old thread here....I *finally* took mine in to have the binding sunroof looked at. They mentioned something about the seals being bad??? but they can't get them alone so they installed a whole new sunroof. Was ~$2200 on their invoice. I will say there were 0 squeaks, rattles, or pops on the ride home. Been a long time since it was that quiet, if ever.

That sounds like a big job? No rattling is the best, rattles drive me nuts!

Has anyone had any issues with their moonroof closing very slow to the halfway point then opening back up like its broken? I am wondering if anyone has had this issue and has a easy fix besides going to the dealership. Here is an example i saw on youtube!
Yes did you get yours fixed and if so, how?

Mine was actually stuck open, wouldn't close any more. Grease was all that was needed.

Unless you use your moonroof daily, the front tracks (for front supports) should not be the problem, as they are rarely exposed to the outside for long.

Locate the rear supports of the sunroof (when the roof is open). They are connected to a rail in the car. This rail is continuously accessible to the outside world, only being protected by rubber seals (normally closed). But a high pressure car wash will likely get rid of the grease in that part over time. If you use a thin rod or narrow but blunt screwdriver and press through the seals (not piercing the seals, just pushing them out of the way) you can test if there is an obstruction there (very unlikely).

I solved my issue by pushing the extension tube of a grease can (white lithium grease) into the rubber seals (you can feel it when you clear the seals and it pushes easier) and then spraying the inner volume (below seals) in front and back of the stuck supports with grease.

I'm having same issue as OP. I'm taking it to the Hyundai dealer (I have 3rd party warranty Silverrock) so I'll keep everyone posted here.

Damn I’m two years late with my response. One of the many reasons I got my Genesis was because of that panoramic moonroof, but when it goes bad it’s a headache. My moonroof was not closing all the way it will go back-and-forth but would never close and it also had a crack in the sound like one of the plastic Brace was broken I have to get mine replace at a Hyundai dealership. My Genesis only had 43,000 miles on there so it was covered under warranty for the second owner and I save myself $3000.

Did it cost $3000 to replace the brace for the pano sunroof? Oh man, I have the same issue and I'm going in a few weeks to get it repaired.

I’m having the same exact problem. I was to suppose to have had this problem fixed with replacing the guiders and motor back in 2017. Which was fixed and replaced which in turn caused some strange noise another problem in 2018. So they were supposed to have replaced my sunroof and all components and parts. I’m having all the same problems noises and the sunroof not opening and closing properly. Hyundai has now informed me that they will not take care of this problem because I’m outside of my warranty. My car is very well kept and in pristine condition! I only have 43,183 miles on my vehicle and no accidents at all! If you are in the market for a Hyundai Genesis stay away! Great car only while your warranty is current or lease only! I’ve invested my hard earned money into my vehicle and this is how Hyundai treats me! I have had three different service’s on the same issue at three different dealerships! I’ve called Hyundai three different times within a one month span from May 2021 to June 2021. This is their premium line but I really can’t tell! I’m in the Norfolk Virginia area so the climate can’t be the factor! So again stay away from Hyundai until they have fixed this issue hopefully as a recall!

Hey guys, I had the same problem at it was supposedly repaired at the dealer. It took a few days because the repair is not done at the dealer. When I got it back it worked ok for a few days then I started having the same issue (but only while parked and idling). After stopping the car and forgetting to close the sunroof while moving, I would have to put the card in gear and drive up the street to get it to close. I'm assuming there was likely a lack of voltage since you get a bump in power as the RPM's rise a bit. I dealt with it for a while, then had an amplifier and sub installed. I also had a 1 farad capacitor from a previous stereo system hanging around, so I asked the guys to install it purely to see if the bump in voltage would help the sunroof close at idle. As I recall the capacitor made the headlights in my previous vehicle much brighter (more than 12v). I'm happy to say that every since I had the capacitor installed, there has been no problem with closing the sunroof while parked at idle. Now after the fact I think it would have been less work to change to a larger fuse. Hope this helps. Capacitor.webp

For the heck of it, I contacted Hyundai's online customer support to discuss my sticking pano roof (2015, 37,000 miles) and let them know I've had it checked a few times in last 2+ years and all they do is lube it. I gave them the TSB# found here on this great forum and noted that I tried to get local Hyundai shop to fix but they would not and quoted over $2000 to do the work.

Hyundai did reply that they are now working with my local Hyundai shop about my issue and that a rep will call my within next 10 days.

Would be nice if they would cover this known issue but not holding my breath.

So what happened with this and what did they end up doing?

Hi I was wondering if I could get some help here, no debri, silicone greased. And rubbed the old grease so if would not obstruct. Any ideas?
