  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello members,

Just wanted to ask those willing to do so: try opening your moonroof fully, if you have one, accelerate to over 50 mph to 65 mph or so..

Results  or :( ???

I did that just today....what happens? Do I get a cookie?!! It opened...the fresh air came thru until I arrived at my appointment, and I closed it and went inside.

Not sure what you're looking for, but it was nice to have it open in late December!

I drove with mine open last weekend, 72 degrees in the Pittsburgh region :).

I won't do that again as I didn't like the wind noise. Too loud for my taste. I did try it in the vent option which was very quiet...that will be how I will use it.

I started a thread on moonroof noises ~4 months ago that didn't generate much response. Fortunately, I don't open my roof often (and pretty much never in the winter), but when I did so for the first time in August, I thought the noise level was high...even at moderate speeds...certainly much higher than the BMWs I had driven previously. I imagine this is something that HMA Engineering could address by tweaking the spring-loaded bar and/or other adjustments.

I opened the sunroof today at 20mph and went all the way up to 75mph , it was not that bad, however at around 40mph like most car sunroofs, I find the cabin pressure build up a little too high for my liking so I personally open the rear windows by half an inch or so which seems to minimize both the pressure and any sound resonance created in the cabin.

OK-thanks, just wanted to experiment as to reactions to the wind noise. In my Genesis 4.6 the noise is over-the-top (hurting ears-stopping all conversation, etc.) and compared to my 2008 MDX or 2004 Audi A8, it was a big surprise.

And, of course, being in Tucson, It's possible to drive that way in all seasons. No big deal, but a big surprise and a small disappointment only...

Happy NYEve all from AZ!! (76 degrees, sunny :))

The sunroof opens?

Seriously, The first car I had with a sunroof was a 1990 Lexus LS. I opened the sunroof once and never again due to the wind noise I found unpleasant. Haven't opened one since. But I do enjoy the sky light effect.

I agree - it is noisy at speed. I'm not sure the front deflector is adequate.

I normally only use it tilted up at the back. As a smoker, it works well in this mode at sucking the smoke out of the car. Not so good when raining, however. Although the rain did not enter the car, I did get an unexpected wet neck when I was forced to brake suddenly in traffic!

Happy NYEve to you and everyone!

I've had several cars w/a moonroof, and I'd found that the noise level does decrease (as does the air pressure) when you add an air dam. I haven't had the problem with the Gen, but the Mazda Millenia I had was terrible, and the Nissan Maxima was the worst without one. Someone mentioned about opening the rear window--that's a good plan--especially when you open the front window (both on the same side). It significantly reduces the amount of air being blown directly into your face while driving. The open rear window (all you need is about 1/2 way) gives the moving air some place to go.

The deflector is HORRIBLE!

I played with it during the warm weekend. Try this! Cruise down the road at moderate speed and open the roof. Now with your right hand squeeze the deflector DOWN and check out the wind noise...or lack there of. The deflector is the issue. It is too high and actually CUTS the wind to where some is entering the car. Bad design and I am planning on figuring out a way to hold it down...permanently or either get a sunroof deflector for the car (the plastic piece with 3M tape).

The first time I openned the sun roof I thought I was about to be stung by a 6 foot wasp! It was the loudest buzzing sound I have ever heard. I slowed down and pulled over, when I got out I noticed a blue colored plastic wrapped around the wind deflector and the bottom rail. Once I removed it the wind noise was very low, about on par with a 5 series BMW.

YERP! I forgot about that.

I did the same thing. You cant tell its on there until you look for it.
