  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As I have explained many times, the Equus is a show car, not intended to sell in volume or make money by itself in the US market. Designed for the Korean domestic market, the Equus is being imported by HMA to improve the image of the Hyundai brand in the US.

Given the new CAFE laws announced today that requires corporate average fuel economy to reach 34.5 MPG average by 2016 (based on weighted average of units sold), Hyundai is not particularly interested in making this a big seller in the US market even if the demand was there. They can temper any unexpected demand by keeping the price a little higher than it needs to be (and by limiting distribution, as already noted in that only certain dealers will sell it).

Looks like a totally different experience is on the way with the Equus. Depending on who (selected dealers) gets to sell these, it could shut some of us out. Maybe only in the big cities/markets?

Thanks for the link never saw the article before.

I see they figured out that an Equus buyer will not like existing Hyundai dealership facilities. Thus picking car up for service and leaving an approriate loaner makes a great deal of sense and provides status to the brand. Also same for test drives. BTW Mercedes does the same for test drives of the Maybach.

:)

Why Hyundai is not making hybrid equus? After all this is the best car & having a good market demand. For more fuel consuming cars like equus the hybrid car is good option.

Or a Diesel option would be great too!!!

According to Hyundai HQ, diesel isn't a viable option for Hyundai- Blue Tech, Hybrid is.
With gas taxes (Cap & Trade) diesel will be priced sky high due to heavy truck penalties- gasoline is best bet.

Hyundai HQ says the same thing about their other vehicles and Diesels here in the US. I think it is a bunch of hooey personnaly. They offer such engines overseas. They are just too damn lazy/cheap to get their diesels certified here. I think that if the Genesis offered a Diesel option it would have been taken more seriously as an MB E class competitor. At the low end, They could do serious damage to VW with diesels. Imagine a Genesis with 40 mpg and serious torque.

Blame Congress, not Hyundai. Lots of car manufacturers find the prospect of bringing diesel engines to the US unappealing, due to the emission standards being biased against diesel.
