Mother's CMX Results

So I've always been a wash then wax person. I've been cleaning up my car with Meguiar's Gold Class car shampoo and waxing after with Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax. I thought I'd give the Mother's CMX Spray wax a try.

Didn't like the results I got. Maybe I was using it incorrectly? I like to apply waxes, finishes, rainx, etc with my Ryobi 9" orbital buffer with a microfiber pad installed and then buff off after with the sheepskin pad.

I had to take the car to the car wash after to get everything off. I waxed with the NXT again the other day and love the finish as well as softness of paint. Am I not using the Mother's product correctly? Should I return the remainder to AutoZone?

No, don't try to returned, odds are they won't back after you've used it.

I've only used a small portion of it and their return policy says they'll take it back with the receipt. Plus I shop there a lot and would only be exchanging for a different product like more wax or something. I'm not worried about being able to return it. I'm just wondering if anyone has had an experience similar to mine? Is my method of application incorrect?

Did you let it cure? I've used it on other vehicles and it looked kind of cloudy for a while before clearing up.

Wrong application. Finishes should always be applied by hand. You're using way too much product if you're applying it with an orbital. This product, like other nano products needs to be applied with a foam hand pad. Spray the lightest amount into the pad and wipe following the body line of the car...
Hood: from windshield down to front bumper
Body panels: horizontally
Trunk can be done side to side.

There should be just the very slightest of haze when you apply it. If you see more than a slight haze you've applied too much.

I did let it cure. I assumed that using a buffer to apply would be better but I'll try again using only the recommended application process.

NSXNEXT with your previous post in mind is it also a mistake to apply rainx to a glass surface with a buffer? I don't mind if I use a little extra product. I just always liked to do it as I assumed it was applying the product more deeply and evenly due to the friction and pressure.

If it's like other polymer sealants you should only need a few drops per panel. Less is definitely more with these new products.

I apply Rain-X by hand I don't think you need to go with an orbital.

Orbitals are typically used with an abrasive not a sealant.

This is with wash and towel dry. Then applied CMX as per the container and buffed with microfiber.

I'm not a fan of it either. I wanted long lasting water beading. I only get about 3 months. The sad thing is I did full prep. As in claybar, paint cleaner, polish and final wipe down with alcohol. So I could've just applied a full ceramic coating that would've lasted 8 years. But now I have to do it all over again.

before you feel bad about what you got, ceramic coatings need their water beading coat reapplied every 3-6 months.

You applied it incorrectly. You applied it like a wax which it isn't. You shouldn't return a partially used product because you made a mistake in using it. This stuff has been covered on YouTube by some of the guys who think they are professionals. NONE of them use a orbital to apply Nano type products to anything. CMX can even be sprayed on a wet car and used as a drying aid, Kind of Like P&S Beadmaker.
Do some research, or go back to wax if you want to apply by Orbital OR go to a Quality Ceramic. BUT NO CERAMIC will last 8 years, If you don't apply a topper every 3 - 6 months the ceramic will not hold up. Now to apply the topper is a wipe-on/wipe-off deal, no real effort at all. Takes me 15 - 20 minutes and I do it so far every couple months. But 8 years? Be realistic.
