OK everyone. New here. Have never actually even been on here to be honest but need some answers. Maybe my gf will get on here if it helps lol. 2010 genesis 2.0t check engine came on. Had it scanned. Was told it was a camshaft sensor. Gf bought the sensor. Day before the sensor comes which was about a week after we find out, has trouble at work and can't start the car. So she went out and bought one at local store and I put it in. Nothing. Did it to both sides. Nothing. Had the car towed to a mechanic and first it was that it needed a valve job and timing set. Or something like that with the timing. I'm not a mechanic. 2k dollars he says. Then he calls back later and says it would be more cost effective to just buy a new motor. He found one with 4k on it. So all said and done out the door about 5500. Something sounds shady to me but I dunno. I needed some expert opinions. Oh and apparently the turbo is trashed because of this too. He said something about a part for the timing you can't just buy an assembly so you have to piece it together. We absolutely do not have the money for this and are kind of in a bind. Can someone tell us if we are getting hosed or if it's a good deal ? Or any other options for that matter. They wont allow her to make payments which i kinda figured. They said they wouod work with payments if she gave them like 3 or 4 down. Car has 81k on it BTW. She bought it used. So far the few people we have talked to that are somewhat mechanically inclined say something sounds shady. Thanks a lot u all.
