Been here awhile...
What recommended motor oil weight do you plan on using going forward?
5W-20 Your healthcare system is a mess, eh?
I chose 5W20 'cause I AM CANADIAN![]()
Pwrplay,
Ontario is a big place, eh?
I.E., Where! Thunder Bay, Guelf, Simcoe, Cornwall, North York, Dunnville, London, Peterboro, Elmira, Where? (forgive any miss-spellings - I'll forgive you for no longer having IPA)
I am using Mobil 1 5W-30 EP right now, but when it gets colder (doesn't get extremely cold where I live) I will switch to Mobil 1 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy (which I have already purchased).
My V6 starts up and runs quieter with Mobil 1 5W-30, which has the oil filter on top that drains back into crankcase.
I'm from Burlington Ontario
(to those of you who don't know the fine Canadian beers and ales,
IPA was "India Pale Ale"![]()
There is no real evidence that the engine was "designed" for a 20 weight oil. There is considerable evidence that auto manufacturers specify 5W-20 to meet CAFE mpg objectives imposed by the government. The Hyundai Genesis Owners Manual lists 5W-30 as an acceptable weight depending on ambient temperatures.using an overweight oil can cause problems. using a 5w30 in an engine designed for 20 can cause problems. I would never recommend change the "hot" weight of your oil (against manufacturer)
an overweight oil will not flow as the MFG intended in an engine designed for 20 weight. This may result in "hot" spots or pressure issues.
