  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The USB port is for Thumb Drives and the Hyundai custom iPod cable only. Any other player needs to be connected to the AUX port, using the earphone jack on the device.

Bear,

How is your Creative Zen configured? Does it use MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) or is is a UMS (Universal Mass Storage). UMS allows you to copy files directly from your hard drive onto your MP3 player.

I don't believe the Genesis Audio system can comprehend anything but UMS device. This is how most USB Flash Drives are configured.

Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) is a technology used to improve transfer and management of digital media between the PC and portable media players. The primary purpose of MTP is to connect portable devices to a Windows XP PC and synchronize digital media content between those devices, the PC and compatible content download services without the need to install separate device drivers. It is also used to synchronize licenses files between the PC and devices.

It is one of the three core components of the PlaysForSure certification program from Microsoft. The other components are Windows Media Codecs (WMA/WMV), and Windows Media DRM 10 (Janus).

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
WOW, I didn't know that the USB port was only for "thumb drives". I was planning to plug in my "Sansa" as soon as I got the car! My unit does have a micro sd card, I wonder if the songs on it would be recognised since they are mp3 and downloaded from my computer?

That's not quite the case. It's designed to support standard storage devices, whatever they may be. If your device requires special drivers or Windows Media Player for your computer to access it, what do you expect the Genesis to do with it?

In this case it's not the file format that's the problem, it's the communication protocol between the host (car) and the removable media.

As was already explained, you can still connect your MP3 player to the Genesis head unit through the audio port.

I expected to use OverDrive Media books through my USB port and use the screen to page mark. OverDrive and iMac have agreed to disagree, which I knew, but expected a PC auto. In a PC world we have an iMac auto. There will always be things in life that are beyond my understanding.

My "Sansa" looks like a thumb drive when connected to a computer without any special software for the player. Based on that I would assume that the mp3 files on the micro sd could be read without any problems. Thats probably the only way to see if it meets the criteria of a "standard storage device".
