  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone had any issue with the multimedia selector failing? I switched to XM radio and was trying to dial fast to a station far down the list near 100 and it stopped working altogether. I can push down and select things but it does not scroll at all at any menu. I plan on calling Hyundai service tomorrow to see what they say but I wanted to know if anyone else had that issue.

Also as a side note, I noticed a rattle in the dash. I'm a little disappointed as my car only has 1200 miles on it. I know it is the first year so some bugs are expected but it is still a little disappointing. I've already had a tire replaced because it was defective. This will be my second service related issue with such low miles. :-(

Have 2,300 miles on mine, No issues with controller. No rattles. Did have a small anti-freeze leak at 800 miles, thermostate housing replaced. Some one else had an issue with the controller some where in this fourm. Just where I don't recall where.

Have you checked after parking the car for 20+ minutes? Many of the entertainment/nav/DIS system issues seem to go away after a full shutdown (reboot). Just turning the system OFF often isn't enough; even shutting off the engine isn't enough - everything needs to be OFF for a few minutes. I haven't experienced a DIS control knob failure but I have had one instance where XM played the same channel regardless of whatever was selected on the screen. AM & FM tuned/worked normally but XM was stuck playing one channel even though the screen said I was tuning other channels. My opinion: the various electronic boxes that make up the entertainment/nav system sometimes forget to "talk" to each other over the fiber optic network. Similar to a "race condition" in electronics/computer programming.

And, as the other reply noted, there has been at least one person with a totally useless/dead DIS controller knob. If yours is still dead after parking for 20 minutes then your car probably has a true hardware failure.

I took it in this morning just for them to tell me "yeap, it's inoperative". They are going to order a new knob assembly. I asked about the back order situation that I read about here (which they were unaware of) and they checked to find out that they are in fact back ordered until November 5th. It will then take another week to get to the dealership here in Central Florida. So mid November I should be able to use my multimedia system.

I hope Hyundai actually figured out what the defect is and fix the problem on the newer batch of assemblies so it doesn't happen again. I have no problem taxing the knob (by turning it relatively fast) to see if it will do it again.

The only problem for me is the fact that I have to spend about 15 dollars every time I go to the dealership in tolls and gas.

I made the switch to Hyundai and I hope this is not the car that makes me never buy a Hyundai again. Hyundai has a great opportunity to capture business in the luxury market but only if they take care their customers by making things right.

On another side note, I found a software glitch. When I have an MP3 CD playing in the car and I turn off the car while it's playing, then turn it back on later, the song list is blank. I waited for a while to make sure that the system was done reading the disc after restart. If I fiddle with the multimedia selector and go back to left do something, go back to the song list it reappears.

As a software engineer, I know that the more complicated the system, the more quirks it can have. Hopefully they'll have a firmware update that addresses a set of software bugs soon.

Re: Rattle.

In almost 11 months, 15000 miles and a hard ride, NO RATTLES. (I'm knocking on wood).

I just received a call from the dealer and the new knob came in. I will be going in today to have them replace it. I hope the new one is a new and improved version. I'll post when it is all done.

Well, the new "keyboard" as they called it is installed and working. The install was very quick, so kudos for my dealership here in S. Orlando. Next obstacle to tackle will be the driver's leather seat bottom. I will post pictures when when I get a chance. I still love the car of course. I can't wait for the wings emblem kit to arrive.
