If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Music For The Lexicon!

Amazon is a little dissapointing when shopping for DVD-A. They really don't have many to choose from, but I did manage to find Incubus ALIVE AT RED ROCKS, which sounds great.

Hopefully in the future, there will be many more on Amazon to shop for.

Queen -A Night At The Opera is amazing in DVD-A on the Lex.

Also have
Lynyrd Skynyrd Then and Now - not the best mix but still sounds good
Eagles Hell Freezes Over DTS
Steely Dan Gaucho
Blue Man Group Audio
On order Beatles Love, Rush Moving Pictures

Need to find - Fourplay, Pat Metheny, Eric Clapton/BB King

Re: Music For The Lexicon DVD-Audio!

The Beatles-Love is just incredible sounding, make sure to have the surround turned on or your missing out on how it was meant to be heard.

My current DVD-Audio Collection:

The Beatles
- Love. All I can say is wow, and so do my friends.
Big Phat Band - Swinging For the Fences. Absolutely Amazing !!
The Fixx - 1011 Woodland. Saved by Zero makes the Disc worth it.
The Eagles - Hotel California. Need I say more !..expensive to get.
Kenwood - DVD-Audio Demo Disc. Nice mix of Artists, Billy Idol & More.
Silverline Inside The Music - New Wave.... Another Great Demo Disc.
Silverline - Classic Rock Masters. Styx, Queensryche, +++.
Pink Floyd -The Dark Side of the Moon. Hybrid SACD-DSD.
Steely Dan - Gaucho. If your a Steely Dan fan this is a must IMO.
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.. Remastered 5.1 DVD-A.
The Police - Every Breath You Take.. Sting fans rejoice !!

I also have several more DVD-Audio discs ranging from classical to rock but the ones above have been my favorites so far. The Genesis - Lexicon sound system is absolutely wonderful for listening to this format. I'm sure glad that I opted for the tech package.

If you want to feel like your sitting in the center of the band while their playing, there is nothing else that can compare to this....it is just a shame that this audio format came out so long that it's now a "dead format", when really this is how music should be enjoyed...once you listen to this it is hard to go back and listen to an MP3 lol.

i didnt look through this whole thread since it is huge, but i just purchased an 2012 4.6 in titanium grey metallic and i was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to watch the DVD's while the car is moving. i have 2 kids and would like them to be able to watch on trips.

You may want to use the "search" function. There are dozens of threads related to your interest.

I am not a fan of Rock & R or Country. Prefer Classical, not too "long hair" or light, very light, Jazz. Prefer instrumental or female vocal. Any suggestions with 5.1. Check the age before you are too critical of my preference.

Hmm... I think that the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000C8AR0/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00"]Marvin Gaye DVD-A[/ame] is the best one in my collection. It is pretty "easy-going", I think.

I have been looking for some quality classical DVD-A's... but no luck so far. If I find something worthwhile, I'll post it on here.

ok another question on the stereo, when i have my ipod plugged in and i want to search for an artist everytime i hit artist it starts at A alphabetically, now is there a way to switch to another letter like say i want U2 do i have to scroll all the way through the 1000 artist i have or is there a quick way to get to U2

I'm not sure how the iPod works, but my Sansa MP3 player works similar to my 16gb flash drive:

I organize my music in folders as follows:

GENRE
---> ARTIST
--->---> ALBUM
--->--->---> Song 1, Song 2, etc

That way, I only have 12 folders or less to flip through on every screen that pops up.

Again... may not work that way for the iPod

There is a decent assortment of classical / easy listening DVD-Audio Discs available. Amazon is a great source for them and Best Buy has a decent selection available for online purchase (no DVD Audio available in store).

On Amazon's site: just listing a few, there are a lot to choose from....If you copy/paste them as I have them listed it will bring you right to the page for each one.

Marvin Gaye Collection (DVD-Audio Surround Sound)
Vivaldi: Sacred Music [DVD Audio]
Roy Orbison - Black & White Night (DVD & DVD Audio)
Sibelius: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 4 [DVD Audio]
Brahms: Symphonies Nos. 2 & 3 [DVD Audio]
Tchaikovsky: The Nutcracker [DualDisc]
Inside the Music - Classic Jazz
Beethoven: Symphony No. 5 "Fate"; Leonore Overture No. 3 [DVD Audio]

Also if you type this into the search box on Amazon's site: Silverline DVD Audio , it will bring up a long list of other available music in the DVD Audio format.

I hope this helps some :)

Thanks! Someone needs to record Carmina Burana in full 7.1 surround, and put it on DVD-A.

Then my life will be complete.

So here is the ultimate question - do 5.1 or 7.1 DVD's (not DVD-A's) sound good in the Lex? I know it depends on the quality of the DVD Audio, of course...

Yes, usually excellent quality audio. The only (small) problem is that you have to get the disc going before driving off because there's no video once out of park. That means going to the audio menu of the disc and choosing DTS as Dolby is usually the default.
Then, assuming you don't change sources while driving, the DVD will resume where you left off when parked without further intervention.

I just received the Dvd audio/video 2 disc of Roy Orbison's Black and White Night. It's the session you've probably seen on PBS with Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raits and others. Haven't had time to listen to all, but its great so far. Kind of a "greatest hits" type selection.

Got via Amazon.

FWIW... I needed to spend an extra $5 bucks on Amazon to get free shipping on an order, so I searched for $5 DVD-A's and found.... STYX - CYCLORAMA: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Styx-Cyclorama/dp/B000228EJU/ref=tmm_dva_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1342915882&sr=8-4"]http://www.amazon.com/Styx-Cyclorama/dp/B000228EJU/ref=tmm_dva_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1342915882&sr=8-4[/ame].

I've never really heard any of the 90's/00's Styx stuff to be honest. But since it was a DVD-A and $5 bucks (the last one they had in stock at that store at that price), I bought it.

I would have to say it is my new demo DVD-A! Sure, the music is a little too "broadway musical"... but man does it sound amazing!

Liberal use of the rear channels, especially with chorus vocals. VERY VERY GOOD PURCHASE if you can find it for cheap.

:)

Best songs: 2, 3, 6 and 7

Expect to see a couple ELP DVD-A releases in two weeks: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008FPZQQU and http://www.amazon.com/Tarkus-Deluxe-Edition-Emerson/dp/B008FPZQRO"]404 Looking for Something?[/ame] . The sound engineering is done by Steven Wilson.

I am trying to play music off my DTS video disk.

I ripped them out to FLAC files and then tried converting them to WMA (Lossless, windows media professional 10 codec, 5.1 channel). I am using the dbpoweramp tool to convert.

However none of the converted files play in the genesis, any pointers please!
