  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello fellow G70 owners,

I wanted to check with any of you guys about a very strange issue happening with my 2.0T Elite model.
Music is not coming out of the speakers. And by music I mean Sirius XM, AM/FM Radio, Android Auto music, and CarPlay music. What does come out from the speakers are the menu beep every time I press a button on the touchscreen, car starting and powering off chimes, Google assistant voice replying to my commands, and other car warning sounds.
I am quite confused at what might be causing the issue. I have reset all sound settings from the menu, and tried with Android Auto and without it. No luck with music coming out. My speakers are from he Lexicon® 15-speaker audio system.

Has anybody experience something very similar? In my case it just started happening today, and I have turned on the car a dozen times to see if the issue would go away.

Had the same experience once a couple of weeks ago, I was driving in the Highway listening music and talking to my wife I put the volume all the way down for a while. When we finished talking increased the volume and suddenly I can't hear any music at all (not from the radio, USB and Bluetooth) but the Navi and voice commands were working. I stopped in a rest area, turned off the car for 3 minutes and voila everything started working again. Never happened again

Sorry, but you bought the wrong model. Some will not play music, only talk radio. You can listen to sports talk and political diatribe, but no music. Please specify the proper model next time.

Thanks for sharing. Interestingly enough, this morning after I turned it back on, all music inputs were working again. But yesterday the attempts to restart the car were within 1 minute from each other and it didn't work. I wonder how often this can happen.

I will make sure I buy the ultimate music deluxe model next time ;)

Same thing happened to me once. It was on a short drive (~2min) and I couldn't get anything to play. I parked, and when I came back to the car ~1hr later it was fine. I had actually totally forgotten about that experience until I saw this post. Might be a bigger issue since so many people have had it happen.

Thanks for the input guys. I am relieve to know that I am not the only one with this issue. Do you guys know what is the best route to get this to Genesis attention in the potential scenario that it becomes a more widespread and frequent issue? Just take it for service at a dealership or something else?

I think there are some bugs in the AV system. Yesterday all of my outputs (except for system sounds and prompts) were stuck on the same volume. When I turned the volume knobs (either of them) the volume graphic came up with the input "Phone" displayed regardless of the actual input. Turning it down all the way would mute the sound coming out. Turning off the AV system turned off the AV system according to the UI, but the radio/siriusXM/AUX would still play through the speakers. Super strange stuff, I got a video of it on my phone. Turning off the car and leaving it to sit for a bit fixed the whole issue.

This just happened to me today. No output from the speakers from the radio source or Bluetooth telephone. Voice control seemed to work but nothing else. Very boring drive home and couldn’t even go fast because of traffic :(

Seems to be a very common issue because I found a few threads about it including one going back years.

Eg. No sound out of speakers

Best suggestion is to switch everything off for a few minutes and it resets itself. Second best suggestion is to pull the Audio 10A fuse from the fuse box to the left of the steering wheel. Third best suggestion is to take the car in and have them replace a bunch of crap including the head unit. #1 worked for me. I don’t recommend #3...

Had the same thing happen with my 09 and 12 Genesis. Both times the head unit needed to be replaced. More head unit issues?

Ditto. Only happened to me once, within the first couple of weeks, totally forgot about it until reading this thread as well.

Well I hope I do not have to change mine. Shutting the car off and trying again a bit later, everything was fine. Cross my fingers it stays that way.

Let's hope not, but as I said that's what both of mine did. It took me a bit just to get the dealership to actually witness the issue since it wouldn't act up for them. I'd take it right there when it happened, shut the car off, and when it was restarted with the service tech present the unit would work as normal. Frustrating, but I learned quickly NOT to turn off the vehicle when taking it to the dealer to show them the issue.

This happened to me about 3 times but haven't reoccured in a month. The issue fixed itself after leaving the car off for a few hours each time. I'm still at 2.5k miles in 3 months.

Just had this happen yesterday. no music but all other noises worked. Tried everything I could think of in menus, finally gave up. Went back to the car about 30 min later and it all worked again. This is one of those things that will never occur in the service department so the chance of getting it fixed is slim to none.

Had this happen to my 09 and 12 Genesis. Next time it happens if you can, drive to the dealership without shutting off the car. That way the tech can see the issue first hand and not be able to use the "works fine for me" routine.

Happened again, very annoying. Fixed itself when I stopped for five minutes to go into a store but wouldn't with a quick turn off and back on at a light. Probably has to go through a full shutdown. The car likely keeps some power on when the proximity key is in/near the car so it is ready to start.

Don't forget you can reset your infotainment system by pressing the little black button by your volume knob. Might require a paperclip or ballpoint pen to get at. It takes less than 30 seconds to reboot, and you don't have to shut your car down at intersections.

So oddly enough my G70 was just in for its 30k service and I never mentioned this as it had only happened the one time. But when I picked up the car and drove out of the parking lot, I noticed no sound so I immediately turned around and showed it to the service person. They took it into the shop and then couldn't get it to play and so they kept the car and let me leave again with the loaner I had just returned.

Not sure if they will find anything as it will likely just start working again randomly as has happened to everyone here. But at least it is now documented and a dealership has witnessed it. (y)
