  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014)
2009 Sedan: All music plays (radio, CD, etc.) with the exception of music on usb stick, which won't play at all. Music loaded onto Kingston; formatted as Fat32. Can see the songs but no sound. Not sure where to go from here.

I had an '09 Infiniti and it had issues with the size of the partition. You might try making it smaller, as a test, or grab a small stick (4gb) to use as a test and see if that works.

I never could get my songs to play in random order, only alphabetical, so I ended up buying a used iPod with a cracked screen which interfaced with the head unit nicely. I gained support for the on-screen display, album art, sorting, and filtering. It was well worth the expense. I did not like having to install iTunes in order to load the music into the iPod (I'm an Android guy) but in the end, it was worth it.

Thanks - Looking into it further I'm thinking the ipod may be the answer, strictly because of the interface. I also have a 2010 Santa Fe and the usb stick works very well hence my belief that the 2009 Genesis has a rather strange interface.

My 2011 sedan won't play music off my iphone, either through the USB port or headphone jack. Says device not recognized. It used to with my older (iphone5), but not my 6s or X. is there a solution?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
My '09 G37 would not read the newer Apple products, either. That's why I bought a used one and just left it in the car. I've since moved that to my G80 and it's still going.

I just tried my old 1st gen. ipad mini, no luck...

If I recall correctly, on my Infiniti, there was a window of models that worked. It was defined in the owner's manual, so you guys might check there.

Not sure about the 2009, but the newer ones you need an official apple 30 pin to lightning adapter which are no longer made but can be found on ebay. These apple adapters have special auth chips in them to show up as an ipod. It doesn't matter for most speaker setups as they only pass audio. But for cars, they need to mimic ipods.

So my ipod classic won't work through usb, usb stick won't work, my ipad mini (2nd gen) won't work, my 6s wouldn't work, nor my XR. All through usb. Going to try using aux, but don't have my hopes up. Also, took my problem to a high end car audio company, they were (unsuccessfully) looking into a "patch kit". It looks like there might not be a solution...

I am using old kingston datatraveler 4GB on Gen 2009 4.6L, no issue for 10 years. I have several USB drive failed. Be sure you test the USB drive first on PC or home audio/TV stream box. No issue with Mac or Windows.
