  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Must read article from Jalopnik about Genesis r-spec v8

Jalopnik, destroys the Genesis in this article. Might be helpful to some with oil consumption issue. I had problem with mine and it was repaired under warranty after lengthy battle.

I hope this helps anyone with problems.
The problems with the early 2012 5.0 V8 are well known and well documented on this forum. 2012 was the first year of the GDI version when displacement went from 4.6 to 5.0 L. The very first year of the 4.6 V8 in 2009 (2008 in Korea) also had some reliability problems.

The article states:

Hyundai was so proud of this engine, they affectionately named it Tau. I scoured the internet for the meaning of the word Tau. Google translate in Korean came up blank. According to Wookiepedia, Tau is the name of an Imperial Navy squadron in the video game Star Wars: X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter. So maybe the Korean engineer who named this engine is a big gamer.

Another possibility is the engine project was assigned a name from the Greek alphabet, Tau being the 19th letter. Let’s go with that one.
Hyundai engines are named using various letters of the Greek alphabet. The current V6 is the Lambda. Just about everyone knows that.

I saw this article yesterday. It's an amusing read. I do wish someone would go on there and let people know that the rest of them are all that and a bag of chips, IMHO. I love my R-Spec, nobody sees it coming. My brother phrased it perfectly; "The reason people mistake it for a luxury car is because it IS a luxury car."

Guy sounds like a twerp.
I would put it this way....... Don’t Ever Buy A Used 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. (unless you buy an extended warranty)

If you bought it new, who cares if the engine or trans go out? (unless you drive the crap out of it)
