  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Who else can appreciate this stuff:

With a 3hr drive ahead of me at 9pm, I had ample time to learn and program my "tech package" in my Genesis. What an experience:

My iPhone phonebook downloaded before I left the dealer. Amazing!
My 1st hour, I programmed my AM/FM/XM presets & favorites. Amazing!
Advanced Cruise Control at 80mph...check! (alternate for break-in period)
Calling family/friends all the way home from phonebook....check!
Advanced HID's maintaining proper elevation and white night driving...check!
Surround sound and more programming completed...check!

I got hungry 2nd hour, so I got into Nav already set for home. Did a POI search "along current route"....category "restaurants"...."all"....Dennys 6.7mi ahead,,,phone number xxx-xxxx ready at the dial....Amazing! Hummmm...can I do this without canceling my current destination? Yes....WayPoint 1 entered. Nav takes me directly to Denny's. Upon restarting car after eating, Nav picks up original home destination without me ever touching a button....Amazing!

Wife calls me... I answer...."Hi honey, I am playing with my "knob", programming car, advance cruise at 80mph, HID's gleaming, jamming on XM." Wife says, "what are you doing with your knob?"

Thanks for traveling Genesis.

Very cool, but how the heck did you get the iPhone phonebook downloaded? I have a 3GS and can't get it to import the phonebook (About 200 contacts) without doing it one by one.

Wow, a wife with a sense of humor! A definite keeper

Phone Book:
I read how many were having trouble so I had told the sales guy doing this with me it would not work. After a few on screen prompts, it worked the first time and took less than 30 seconds. I too have hundreds of contacts on my 3GS. Wish I knew the exact steps we took, but it worked so fast and on the first try, I never looked back. Are you using the iPod cable. I think I had mine plugged in after I connected via bluetooth. Try pairing first....then plug in iPod cable. Then get into phone menu.

As for my wife is a keeper???? She has a bigger temper.

You are going at learning about your car the right way. Congrats. By now you know it will take time to digest all that is in the manuals for the car and DIS. The more you know the fewer problems you will have with the tech stuff. Have fun, enjoy!

very cool to hear ... allthough one unrelated thing stands out, home location in any GPS device might not be a good idea - specially in a car GPS that also has a homelink programmed to your garage ... you see where it's going :). I always program a intersection close to home.

That's a thought. Fortunately I've never had a car ripped off, but you just never know.

it only takes that one time ... but a funny story on that topic. My wife bought a used car last year and while driving around town a "work" icon popped up on the GPS screen, needles to say there was a whole set of "home", "aunt Agnes", kids schools and what not in the list ... pretty scary if you think about it.

Anyway, at least we found out the the miles between work/home were 100% 60 highway miles each way :)

Oh yes. I did not set it up as "home" in the system. My other car asks for a security pass code before "home" can be selected. Not having this, I just set as a regular destination. Thanks for the safe tip reminder.
