  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello friends, I was wondering if anyone is have trouble with AWD Genesis slipping and sliding in snow with traction control engaged. I have Michellen tires and I can do doughnuts with ease. It spins and the traction control lights sometimes don't even light up on dash. Took to dealer and they claim its fine. My Lexus LS430 handles better in snow. I apprecaite any feedback.

Does the Genesis have the same brand ans type of tires as the Lexus? If not then its not a fair comparison.

My original tires were the MXM4s. They were decent in the snow, even in about 7" deep un-plowed parking lot.
I did have balance issues, so they were replaced with Conti Extreme Contact DWS 06, which are even better in snow.

It is all about the tires. The car is heavy enough that with good tires you should not have a problem. I have a RWD and live in the snow belt in Ohio and the first snow I ever drove the car in 3 years ago was with the All season Hankook and they performed great with 5 inches of snow. I drive a lot so I opted for Blizzak WS80 and the car drive great with Snow mode on.

you need to use snow tires. Forget about all season or DWS.
I live in Toronto Canada and we get a lot of snow here. This car handles exceptionally well in the snow.

Where in Ohio are you?

Maybe snow mode (hold down drive mode for a second or two) would work better for you? Sounds like you are having trouble controlling the throttle.

AWD is not magic, you need the proper tires for the conditions. Winter tires will be a huge step up from all seasons in snow or ice.

^^^^^ What he said! Dedicated snow tires for this car aren't cheap but if you avoid one accident, they pay for themselves. AWD with snow tires will make this car a total beast in the winter. Snow tires are something you never knew you missed until you own them.

I have 5.0 AWD with DWS06 and I've been driving around Vancouver's last snow storm in sport mode... lol... only had to engage snow mode a few times to get unstuck. That snow dump was anywhere between 6-12" depending on the area. It felt better in sport mode than my old YF Turbo with proper snow tires. Bit of an odd year with the weather here as it rarely snows more than a few inches per year so I'm not bothering with snow tires for this car. The DWS06 does just fine.

DWS06 are awesome in the snow, one of the highest rated All season tires for snow

Snow tires are the key. Mine handles very well even in sport mode in snow as well as packed snow/ice. We have loads of them in Alberta.
Snow mode is an overkill and I have not being forced to use it yet.

Yes they are a great tire and do work rather well in the snow compared to many all season tires. DWS stands for Dry/Wet/Snow and have different depth wear bars for each category on the tire. Problem is the Snow wear depth is rather shallow and after around 10,000 to 15,000 miles they are considered worn out for snow conditions however they still remain great in wet and dry. Just something to keep in mind.

If you live in an area of Ohio with regular snowfall in the winter, you might want to invest in a set of winter tires and wheels. The DWS 06 tires might be fine in a pinch, but not even close to the traction and better braking offered by dedicated winter tires. Moreover, what's the economy in discarding a set of (presumably good) Michelins for another set of summer tires. For the difference of an inexpensive set of wheels, you would have wheels and tires for summer and winter.
