  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Went into the garage this morning to start the Genesis 4.6 and nothing happened. Entry lights came on as normal, but when pressing the starter button...nothing. I put the fob into the access slot and the steering wheel moved but nothing....

I called Hyundai Roadside Service and they towed the car away...

Will keep you posted...

that is crazy. these start/off button should have a manual override for these kind of situation.

by the way, why pos this at the Coupe forum ??

Wrong forum.... moving in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1....

DAY 2 - No response from dealer yet....Thanks for the suggestion of the BCM. I was not aware that on the new push starts the Body Control Module (BCM) was involved. I traditionally think of systems like the automatic door locks, battery protection , chimes , compass/mini-trip support, courtesy lamps, headlamp time delay , ignition key lamp , illuminated entry , instrument panel dimming, instrument cluster support , power door locks, seat memory lock ,Vehicle Theft Security system ,wndshield wipers as part of BCM package.
The only problem being that the entry illumination did work. Did not think to check the wipers, etc.
Will let you know what the tech's think-

Day 2 - Dealership just called and said that the root cause was a loose wire off of the ignition switch going into a wiring harness. Apparenty it had not been properly secured at the factory and worked itself free.
I am happy that is was not something major!

This is at least the second instance I think I have seen in this forum about something that was loose, or partially connected which caused an issue. Sounds like they have some QA issues to work out on the assembly line in Korea! Glad it wasn't something major. Thanks for keeping us informed and updated!

I agree and have saw a few issues of things coming loose. They need to get a handle on that stuff! I did find it amazing though that in order to work on the Genesis assy line you had to have a minimum of 19 years of experiance with Hyundai. I think that was a helpful foundation to build upon.
I can't remember where I read this information. I think it came from another member here way back before the Genesis had arrived in the U.S. It may have been a tidbit from Hyundai Genesis. At any rate I can't prove it unless someone else can back me up as seeing it to.

At any rate these people show that, even while experianced, they have made some assy. errors. So again I agree that they have some QA issues to work out. So far my Genesis has been flawless but (knocking on wood) I probably shouldn't say that lol!!!

Duaine,
After thinking about this some more, it may be a bit premature to put all of the blame on the assembly line. I would assume that some prep to the vehicles is done when the vehicle arrives at the port. So maybe some of these issues occur at the port of entry. Hell, for that matter, it could happen at the dealership. At any rate, it is good these things are minor and corrected with just a minor inconvenience to the owner. I am with you though, mine has been flawless. Maybe I need to knock on my dashboard after saying that . . . . . . but wait, that's plastic! LOL! Happy and safe motoring!

Moose 66,
All valid points........it doesn't hurt to cover all the bases. Maybe knock on the leather dash insert lol! You take care!

Probably the most annoying aspect of this "minor inconvenience" was the realization that loaner car policy varies from dealer to dealer. I had the car towed to the nearest dealer at the time and they would not give me a loaner simply stating it is not Hyundai policy. The dealership I bought the car at had promised a loaner. This is an example of how Hyundai America needs to step up to the plate and insure the customer experience is the same across the country.

I admit I may have used the words minor inconvenience loosely here! Not sensitive enough to someone who was truly inconvenienced. Sorry about that. As for the loaner. . . . . . to me this is a no brainer. I can understand not providing a loaner for an oil change. But for an unscheduled service? No doubt you should have been given something to drive. Even if it was one of the pre-owned cars sitting on the lot. I would have no problem driving whatever I was given. Just give us something HMA!
