  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My car is falling apart

Best of luck. I too was having weird electrical problems (like most on here). They found that the passenger side fuse box had a bad ground (whatever bad means). It fixed a multitude of my problems.

Hopefully that's your issue and the dealer will fix it.

Congrats on going above the service manager's head....... sounds like a real douche!!
If you're talking about the one in the engine bay that seemed to be my problem too. Been having weird intermittent problems for a while and they replaced my junction box last week and so far seems good. No idea about the long term but havne't had anything thus far.

What type of problems were you guys having?

Intermittent problems including: climate control issues, where temp/fan settings would change on their own, or wouldn't respond when I changed them. Radio problems where I would get a "check antenna" message and radio would be useless, usually started working again after an hour or so. DIS knob would become unresponsive and I would have to try a few times to do anything, or I would press it once and it would think I pressed it multiple times. The tech that worked on my car said that the junction box in my engine bay (near the firewall on passenger side) wasn't grounding properly and believes that's what would cause it as all of the things I was having issues with had fuses located in that box. Been a week without issue so far, however it's too early to say that it for sure fixed things.

If you are having several unrelated electrical issues, then a bad ground is probably the cause. Worst car I ever owned was an 88 Sable with a bad ground. I was always replacing electrical components (expensive even then) until I solved the issue. That said, I drove a Santa Fe for 150K trouble free miles which is why I bought the Genesis. It seems that with the exception of excessive oil use, almost all the complaints are about electrical add-ons. That same complaint is occurring across all brands as they all are scrambling to include all the hoo-haas.

I really do hope it is something as simple as a bad ground. I'm extremely nervous to be keeping this car, given the fact that the cruise control module is around $4,000, in addition to the audio head unit running around the same price. I still have faith that the car can be fixed. Time will tell.

I hope your issues are resolved with your Genesis.

The headlights thing would drive me up the wall. But since I do not use the cruise control it is something that wouldn't bother me. I have been man-footing it since the day I started driving so cruise control is still relatively trivial to me. Hell, I think using it is more dangerous than not.

My first car, a 1990 twin turbo Z had cruise but since I was boosting like an idiot all through the state I never used it. My second car (Daily Driver) did not have cruise and my DD before the Genesis had it, but only my wife used it.

I wanted to give this thread an update. I am still awaiting the final paperwork from Hyundai, but so far so good. I know they replaced over $10K in parts. Notably, the adaptive cruise module, multi-function switch, nav head unit, 17-channel amp and a TPMS sensor was replaced.

It seems, for now, that the initial dealer that I was working with was highly incompetent. I kept going back to them because the next closest dealer was over 30 miles away. EVERY single time the car was in for something, they screwed it up.

Brake Fluid TSB...the brake pedal went to the floor when I was driving it off of the lot

On two separate instances where they replaced a front parking sensor, something was left not put together right. First time, fog lights were left disconnected and multiple fasteners were missing from upper bumper area. Second time, they didn't even install the sensor correctly. There was literally a hole in the bumper where it was supposed to go, and it was sitting deep within the bumper.

When my car had a problem with the fuel tank shutting off the pump early, I picked the car up and went to the gas station to check it and the pump shut off at .9 gallons. Took it back and they fixed if by...get this..."Blowing air through the lines"

Anybody in the St Louis Metro area, DO NOT go to Auffenberg Hyundai. For that matter, don't go to ANY Auffenberg dealer. We bought a Jetta TDI from Auffenberg VW right down the street, and for it's first oil change, the tech left a socket and bolt sitting on the subframe where the steering rack is mounted. On the second oil change, they left the rear part of the splash shield without the 4 bolts for it, and it started flapping as soon as we hit 65mph on the highway.

I have never had a worse experience than with these clowns, seriously.

Sorry, but what final paperwork are you waiting for? Maybe I missed that in an earlier post.

alright, my car isnt falling apart but it rained a few days ago and my intermitted setting was acting weird i would put it to the highest setting but it would act like it was on the lower setting... after driving a few miles it got faster but not as fast as it was supposed to be. anyone had this issue with the wiper speed?

I hear you, brother.

I am seriously beginning to think about a "reliable" used car and taking it to a local mechanic that I can trust for R&M. I almost always lease a car to try and avoid these things, but I have to admit that I am hard pressed to find any dealer garage that is worth its weight in jelly beans with my Genesis and other new car leases of recent past. Obviously, there is no really great option.

I hope you can get your problems resolved soon. Fingers crossed.

This portion is new to me as well. Since I dealt with Hyundai Corporate, the repair process is different than dealer generated warranty paperwork. It has something to do with the engineer that they flew out to authorize parts replacement on the spot.

Didn't fix it. Radio quitting on me intermittently again. Getting the antenna replaced friday, who knows if it will do anything though.

Get acquainted with the lemon laws in your province. Not sure how it works in Canada; I assume it will be similar. Usually is deemed a lemon if car is in the shop x number of times for the same failure and/or a total number of days for repair.

No lemon law here on used cars unfortunately. Hyundai Canada has said to work with the dealer on this. My options are basically sell a car knowing it has issues, or keep going back and forth throwing parts at the car hoping to get it resolved finally.

I've seen quite a bit of thoughts in this thread along the lines of "This wouldn't happen on a Lexus." WRONG.

My grandparents bought an 07 LS460 new. Within the first 3k miles the Mark Levinson amp freaked out during a trip, leaving them to drive over an hour with static screaming from the speakers with no way to turn it off. The nearest dealer couldn't fix it, and they had no parts on hand since the car was so new, so they pulled an amp out of a new car on the lot to fix it.

Before the 10k mile mark, the car was recalled to get all of the engine's valve springs replaced. They were of poor quality and could fail and destroy the engine. Their $90k purchase sure yielded a quality product!

Their 04 LS430 has a dead amplifier (also Mark Levinson), another common issue with no resolution. It has pushed used amps to near $1k on ebay, with dealers wanting double for amps with the same fatal flaw that kills the original.

Any car can have a flaw - no brand is immune!

Just wanted to bring a close to this thread. I cannot divulge the details, but I am no longer a Genesis owner.

It's been good sharing thoughts/views/opinions/experiences with everybody here, and I wish you all the best with the Hyundai brand.

Ah, do tell more please. To help others out here that may end up in the same fix you were in. Glad it was resolved by getting something else. You a Equus owner now. :)

The intermittent wiper settings messed with my head as well. But I think I have found out what might actually happening. My 2011 4.6 has automatic wipers. By setting the intermittent in a "regular" car, you are setting a timed recurrence that the wipers will wipe. Higher setting = shorter time between wipes, Lower setting = longer time between wipes.

What I have seen is that the intermittent settings (with the automatic wipers) is actually setting a threshold for how much rain must fall on the windshield before a wipe occurs. Higher setting = less rain on windshield before wipe, lower setting = more rain on windshield before wipe.

How it occurs in real life is that in a steady, misty rain the wipes might occur fairly regularly, however in blowing rain or traveling through trees or overpasses, the wipes might occur at unevenly timed intervals, or might even jump to a higher speed while being intermittent.

Next time you are in the rain, see if this is the case (assuming you have auto-wipers). You can even prove it out by spraying a hose on the windscreen (with the car and wipers on). Once I understood the "logic" in the intermittent settings. it was easy to see it operate in real life. Hope this helps.
