  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am very excited about this solution that I devised since I think the omission of OEM supported BT streaming on Tech cars is ridiculous.

I had seen other posts about solutions that involved using the 12v plug, but this was not satisfactory since it would look bootleg and occupy that 12v outlet all of the time, which was not an option for me as I have 2 phones to charge and don't want to use the cig lighter outlet. I wanted to use the stock 3.5mm/USB iPod cable

I bought mine from Amazon for $15 shipped:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Receiver-Adapter-Sounddock-Speaker/dp/B0094G44PS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1385005373&sr=8-1&keywords=mpow+bluetooth"]Amazon.com: Mpow® Bluetooth A2DP Music Audio Receiver Adapter for Bose Sounddock and 30-Pin iPod iPhone Dock Speaker: Computers & Accessories[/ame]

When I first plugged it in the factory cable, the Genesis thought it was an iPod and tried to sync with it or whatever. I would be able to pair and play music briefly but then the Genesis would get frustrated with trying to sync with the adapter and would then cut out the music and tell me to try reconnecting.

I realized that the issue here is that the Genesis iPod cable includes data pins in the USB port. I still needed the USB port to supply power, but the data pins would have to go.

So, with a little help from a Dremel, I opened up the iPod cable end with the 3.5mm/USB connections and desoldered two of the USB wires from the conveniently labeled circuit board (leaving just the positive and negative wires intact), reinstalled the cover, and went back out to the car to give it a test.

And miracles of miracles, my phone pairs automatically in the first ~10 seconds, and I was able to play songs via BT with the Genesis thinking that I had only a 3.5mm cable plugged in. Borat voice: great success!

Unfortunately I can't think of a way to get the artist/title scrolling across the screen but it is the next best thing!

I will be posting a pictorial DIY on Friday and for a nominal cost would be happy to modify some cables for other owners who don't feel comfortable cracking open the iPod cable.

OK you've captured my interest. I'm eagerly awaiting your next post. Thanks for the excellent work.

Resurrecting an OLD thread here.

What on the 30 pin side is not connected on the Genesis cable?

I bought a 30 pin to USB and 3.5 mm ... and it gets the funky connection you describe ... it is longer than the genesis cable, which I need.

It looks like the USB (genesis) has all 4 wires at the USB side, but wht is not connected on the 30 pin side?

There has to be a data pass through of some kind to get the information from the Phone to display on the screen - yes? Just not the full "synch" .

Any suggestions?

Not sure....my suggestion would be to buy two spare cables and try desoldering each of the non-power wires. 2 of the 4 wires are used for power so the other 2 must be used for data transfer. Perhaps one could be desoldered to allow info on the screen, which would be awesome. Interesting suggestion, might need to try this myself.
