Getting familiar with the group...
I am very excited about this solution that I devised since I think the omission of OEM supported BT streaming on Tech cars is ridiculous.
I had seen other posts about solutions that involved using the 12v plug, but this was not satisfactory since it would look bootleg and occupy that 12v outlet all of the time, which was not an option for me as I have 2 phones to charge and don't want to use the cig lighter outlet. I wanted to use the stock 3.5mm/USB iPod cable
with one of these Bluetooth dongles:
I bought mine from Amazon for $15 shipped:

When I first plugged it in the factory cable, the Genesis thought it was an iPod and tried to sync with it or whatever. I would be able to pair and play music briefly but then the Genesis would get frustrated with trying to sync with the adapter and would then cut out the music and tell me to try reconnecting.
I realized that the issue here is that the Genesis iPod cable includes data pins in the USB port. I still needed the USB port to supply power, but the data pins would have to go.
So, with a little help from a Dremel, I opened up the iPod cable end with the 3.5mm/USB connections and desoldered two of the USB wires from the conveniently labeled circuit board (leaving just the positive and negative wires intact), reinstalled the cover, and went back out to the car to give it a test.
And miracles of miracles, my phone pairs automatically in the first ~10 seconds, and I was able to play songs via BT with the Genesis thinking that I had only a 3.5mm cable plugged in. Borat voice: great success!
Unfortunately I can't think of a way to get the artist/title scrolling across the screen but it is the next best thing!
I will be posting a pictorial DIY on Friday and for a nominal cost would be happy to modify some cables for other owners who don't feel comfortable cracking open the iPod cable.
