If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was enjoying a ride this morning when disaster struck. I heard a strange knock/pop from the engine bay then seconds later something that sounded like a jar of nickles being smashed under the hood. The motor gurgled and sputtered it's dying breath as it rolled to a stop, never to start again. Some kind folks and I pushed it to a repair shop around the corner for a confirmation of what I feared. The engine had a catastrophic failure and threw a rod. Engine replacement is a little out of this shops core competency. So, I arranged to have it towed to a Equus/Genesis certified dealership for hopefully a warranty repair. I'm incredibly nervous that the third party warranty company will deny the claim, but the service coordinator did a pretty good job reassuring me. I feel like I'm going thru the stages of grief here. I am shocked that this could even happen.. wish me luck me friends! I'm not ready to leave the Equis/Genesis Motors family! Anyone else experience this or have input while I patiently wait for the final word tomorrow?

What year is your vehicle, and which engine do you have?

Unless you are lacking maintenance records you are likely okay, unless the Hyundai dealer doesn’t accept your extended warranty brand. You probably confirmed that before you bought it though.

Ouch I hope everything works out in your favor! Keep us posted please.. I have the same year. How many miles?

Oh, memories. I augured in driving a Mazda 3 on the interstate, coasted to a stop halfway up an exit ramp and waited in the 95º heat for an hour for the truck. I chose engine rebuild and then shortly after sold it. Ah, the good old days.

I bet it handled wonderfully on that exit ramp however!

To my relief, the third party warranty company has approved the claim for an engine replacement! I'm so glad I didn't opt out like I have in the past. Prior 6 years of leasing different vehicles and I've feel the extras to be a bit of a money grab. I get it, revenue is need for those complementy teas and sodas hey offer.

Anyhow, I bought a 2014 Equus Signature at 81K with pretty good maintenance record for most of the cars life. I paid $15228 for the vehicle, doc. & reg. fee /$750 for tax /$1800 for a third party warranty. About a month after purchase, the alternator went out. I paid the $200 co-pay, warranty shelled $550 and I was back in business.

I have now paid $70 for a tow and another co pay of $200. However, the service department at the dealership stated spark plugs, belts and hoses aren't covered by the warranty and will run about $700 extra out of pocket. The service dept. said they won't know until the replacement engine arrives. They provided a time line of 3 more weeks to 6 weeks depending on if they can't find the right motor or need to build one in the service department.

Thanks for the read and support, I'll let y'all know how this dumpster fire of a year turns out in regards to the repair.

Thankfully I have all the maintenance records because I've only owned the car 3 months. Two oil changes and an alternator. There is a pretty lengthy maintenance record for the prior owner on carfax.

Correct, I bought the third party warranty from a Hyundai/Genesis dealership when buying the car. The warranty states I must return the vehicle to the place of sale if with in 50 miles. It was an out-of-state sale and I'm about 200 milws away. This means I can have it repaired at any licensed shop or dealership of my choice.

I got my baby back..baby back..Chillies....

Anywho, I picked up my Equus tonight after a lengthy repair. "Engine to have internal bearing failure. Removed oil filter and found metal debris. Recommended replacing engine assembly. Removed upper oil pan to remove connecting rod caps.found cylinder for connecting rod bearing to have excessive scoring and has spun. Metal debris is present everywhere. Installed used engine assembly and test drove. Found vehicle to operate normally."

My cost after third party warranty co-pay of $200, is an additional $268 for spark plugs and $84 for belts & hoses. $7954 was covered by the warranty company to my relief.

It feels great to be back on the road. Thanks for reading!

Nice to hear you did OK with the warranty. Hope you have many happy miles now.

If I am reading that correctly....they installed a used engine as a replacement?
Was this a Hyundai dealer?

Hello, that it correct. I took it to a Hyundai/Genesis dealership for the warranty repair. However, I have a third party warranty since I am the second owner and I bought it with 80K miles. I had 94K miles on the engine when rod was thrown. They replaced it with an oem used engine with 63K miles. I was told I lucked out because the replacement had salvageable belts, and hoses that I would have needed to pay to replace.

Ok....I had not heard of a warranty company paying for a used engine..Just new or rebuilt units
Granted..if you were fine with it I am sure that saved the warranty company a lot of money

They paid out about $7954 for the engine/parts/labor. The motor was picked out by the Hyundai dealership service department, not the warranty company. I'm cool with the fact that they also saved me over $ 700. Since the one they found came with new hoses gaskets and belts that I otherwise would have had to pay out of pocket.
