In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Good day and thanks to all the contributors to this forum. Im picking up my first Hyundia on Monday, a CPO 2015 Genesis 3.8 RWD with Ultimate package, 42k mls, can forum members with this car give me heads up on what to expect, Im coming from a 2012 BMW 535, is now my wife car. I have one question, is the CPO Platinum extended warranty worth the $2195, or am I good with the basic warranty?. Thanks.

Since you have a CPO, that already extends the powertrain warranty to 10 years or 100K miles (which ever comes first) that is normally only available to the original owner. The rest of the car has a 5 year or 60K mile warranty.

If you want 10 years - 100K on everything, then an extended warranty is not a bad idea, but the quote you have been given of $2195 is too much. You can purchase this extended warranty at any Hyundai dealer, even after purchase.

There are several threads in this forum that indicate where to get the best deal on the extended warranty, but since you live in ATL I would try Jim Ellis Hyundai. Ask for Haub Cao, or the current business manager who handles warranties. You can call them on the phone, and probably do the deal on the phone if you want to.

If you are buying your car from Jim Ellis, just tell them the price quoted for the warranty is too high, and either they lower it substantially or you will get it somewhere else.

Thank you Mark, Jim Ellis Haub Caos is where i got that extended warranty quote from, Im buying the car from them. So I guess I should shop around for a better deal, what is a good deal on the warranty, in your opinion ?

Just go back to the guy who gave you the quote and explain (what he already knows) that you can get the extended warranty at any dealer, and that his price is way too high. I would offer $1,400 and not pay more than $1,600. Just tell them their are other dealers who will sell to you it on the phone for much cheaper.

When I bought my Hyundai, the first quote for the extended warranty from the finance guy was $3,500 and I said no. Then he offered $2,500 and I said no. Then he offered $1,800, and I said no again because I didn't want the warranty.

Thank you Mark, appreciate this info, I always wonder why car dealers always get a bad rep, now I know.

I got a Platinum VSC with $100 deductible for $1300, which is probably the low end. Here is my story:

I purchased a 2015 CPO with 27k miles on it at First Hyundai in MA three weeks ago. When it was time to meet with the Finance salesman to discuss the add-ons, he assumed I didn't want anything and had me sign a waiver declining all offers. It had the extended warranty listed at $1300. Naturally, I thought it was a good deal and asked to include it, especially since he did not make any efforts to sell it. Later when I went home, I realized I was sold a Gold plus plan from Fidelity Warranty Services, not Hyundai. When I picked up my car, I was ready to cancel it, and the Finance salesman said that Hyundai owns Fidelity, so it's the same as the factory warranty plan. After insisting that I don't want a 3rd party warranty, he offered to switch it to the Hyundai VSC at the same price. To be sure I wasn't subjected to other ploys, I called Hyundai Motor Finance to verify. My first call to Hyundai didn't show any records, so I pestered my dealer to follow up and then I checked with Hyundai two days later, at which point my warranty was in their system.

I don't think I would have gotten this price if I asked the dealer straight up, and the only reason I got this price is because some profit was better than no profit to them, and the paper work was probably easier this way.

The lessons I learned:
- It's really easy to get lost in the fine print, the bottom line is that one should assume any dealer is going to maximize their profit no matter how nice they seem. I highly doubt there is car dealer in business that is trying to make an honest living. At best, they are threading the fine line bordering on the unethical.
- It all depends on what kind of sales strategy the finance manager decides on, high margin or high volume. Despite some threads on this forum that earlier suggested buying the extended warranty from First Hyundai, I no longer recommend it. It seems they are more interested in selling 3rd party warranties, which probably makes them more money for less work.
- At $1300, the dealer still must still be making money, so most dealers are getting a good margin out of offering the warranty, especially when most people have no idea how much they are paying Hyundai for it. I would have had no issues if a dealer added a 20% margin onto a warranty like this, but from the numbers I am reading on this forum, that is not even close in the majority of the cases. So buyer beware!

Are you talking about a 0 deductible or with a deductible? He has 40k miles on the car even if it is CPO.

I'm really hoping hte pricing you are mentioning is valid because I would love to get that pricing on a 10/100 0 deductible... for reference, I was given the following quotes that I did not act upon yet:

@ 22,300 miles I was offered $2,715 by Serena (the previous gold standard of this forum)
@ 24,000 miles I was offered $3,129 by Haub
@ 25,800 miles I was offered $3,256 by someone else.

I'm now quite higher than that and was feeling dumb, but your post is making me feel better...and hopeful.

EDIT: for clarity, I have a 2015 ultimate 3.8

I was talking about a CPO, which has the 10 year - 100K powertrain warranty restored. That significantly reduces the liability for the remaining items.

When buying a pre-owned car, the price is almost always negotiable, but I will admit that the Hyundai extended warranty on a used car may be higher than new cars, and that I don't know really know the dealer cost on a used Genesis model (with or without CPO). But it doesn't hurt to ask them to lower the price.

I'm picking up the car on Monday, so I am going to negotiate a better price, as I did on the car, one thing I would like your opinion on is, is the track record on a 42k miles Genesis good, and is the extended warranty really needed or I can skip it, I usually never buy extended warranty on most stuff, but a car is a big investment. I will offer $1200 and see. Thanks

On a different topic, I just check hyundai website and learned that android play is not compatible with the 9.2 screen, which I believe comes in the Ultimate, as a android user, what are my options, as the blue link feature is a pay service ?.

Since a CPO has the extended powertrain warranty (engine and transmission) to 10 years or 100K miles, you are really talking about all the electronics in the car (entertainment and safety systems) as being the main concern of a warranty repair between 60K and 100K miles. That is a tough question to answer, since the cost of replacing (they seldom can repair those items items) any of those systems is considerable, but maybe the warranty is not going to be as cheap as I thought either.

Spoke to my dealer today about the extended warranty, and made a offer of $1500, which was rejected, his best offer is $1895. I also got a $1976 and $2200 from other dealers, these are 100000 miles, $100 deductible.

Welcome aboard! Thank you for signing up and congratulations on your Genesis! I also have a 2015 - a Signature V6. My first Hyundai as well - and I've been completely happy with it. :)

SoI picked up my Genesis Ultimate Pkg yesterday, first impression as a techie, the technology features in the car is unreal, I will be reading manuals, watching videos for the next few days. I did purchase the extended 100000 mile warranty for $1895 (best deal I could find) due to the mileage on the car (41950) and the electronics equipment, this weekend I will do my first extensive features test. Thanks you all for your feedback, apprecilove...

Quick question, would installing a steering wheel cover (I like the feeling of a thicker steering wheel), cause the LKAS and Lane departure feature not to work, based on the training video which states, both hands must be on the steering wheel for the feature to work, I assume there is some type of sensor on the steering wheel, does anyone know ? .

Congratulations on your Genesis Ultimate! Yes, the tech features are amazing. I have a 2015 Signature and I'm a techie like you. So I'm missing the good stuff. :( But that's okay - I truly love the car...

As for the steering wheel, I don't have that feature but the way I see it work with most cars is there's a sensor to sense that you're hand is on the wheel. Occasionally a warning will sound or flash and you'll need to squeeze the wheel a bit for it to go away. I'm not 100% sure, since I don't have the feature, if you need to squeeze or turn the wheel a touch - but either way I don't think that'll affect you too much unless you have a cover that can't be squeezed...

Ok, I will try one later and report back, thank you.

No other options. At Hyundai, "Ultimate" means pay $$$ for a mostly useless BluLink set of features and $$$ for map updates or drive around with a car that has a lot less features than one with ACP or AA for more $$$ up front. "Ultimate" means Hyundai can charge you more.

The topic has been discussed her ad nauseum, a search will reveal a lot of opinions on this issue, including that I am a moocher that expects things for free that I am not entitled to.

I did install a steering wheel cover and I did not notice any difference with the LKAS feature, It work just as before and is able to detect if my hand is on the steering just as before.

I think it probably detects even slight driver movement (or resistance to movement) of the wheel to satisfy the hands-on requirement. Detecting actual touch would be hampered by gloves, prosthetics, and the like.

That's exactly it. In the Tesla forums people talk about hanging fishing weights from one side so the bounce registers as hands-on-the-wheel micro-movements. Sounds like a good way to die.

I'm not sure how they sense your hand but it does. You do not have to keep both hands on the wheel, just a couple of fingers works. If you have the CC on, after about 30 seconds of no hands it will drop out and give you a warning. Position is not critical either, my hand will be anywhere from 7 to 11 o'clock position.
