  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Genesis has been in the shop for 8 weeks now

I bought a 2015 genesis and got rear ended at a red light 2 weeks later.

Hyundai has had my car for 8 weeks now and they still don't have an estimated completion date. They say they're waiting on a harness, but it's on back order with no delivery date.

Any recommendations on who I can contact to speed this up? I think it's pretty ridiculous to wait 2+months to fix a car that probably took a week to make.

I'm starting to regret buying this car.

What you are going through is not uncommon for a new model of any brand. Be patient and run the miles up on the rental that the other guy is paying for. A few years ago I waited about 8 weeks for an ac compressor for an Acura

Try contacting them here and filing a complaint. The other option is to tell the dealer to remove the part from a car on the lot. Ask for approval through the site below if needed.

My new Sonata suffered the same fate. With 321 miles on it on a very bad weather day some guy looking to get work on time attempted to pass on the right lane and then move left. He didn’t make it. My car was at the repair shop for a month finally the appraiser said “we’re going to have to total this car because we won’t be able to get parts for quite a while. “ Of course there was considerable damage but actually it wasn’t beyond repair. With 321 miles on the clock I did not want this car back. Fortunately the insurance did the right thing totaled the car and paid for the new one including the tax. I completely understand the anxiety you’re feeling. Just make sure you’re confident in the repair shop doing the work.

Thanks for the replies

I sent it to the hyundai repair shop, i thought they would be the best people to use.

got in a wreck on feb 13 so its actually been 9 weeks now
I would love for them to total the car out.

If it was a warranty repair the dealer might take a part off another car on the lot but on a collision repair its very unlikely any dealer would take parts off a new car on their lot.

Wow, if I was the insurance carrier, I would explore the possibility of getting the harness made in a custom shop to OEM specs. You could make a damn fine wiring harness for the cost of that rental car. If I were assured of the quality, I'd sign off on the substitution. Hyundai could be forced to accept the part to keep the car in warranty or pony up the actual part.

Since you were rear ended, I assume you have a lawyer? If you do, you may need to get them to growl.

If insurance is paying for it, I wouldn't want a single non OEM component on the car.

Wiring harnesses aren't rocket science. How long do you want to drive a sub-compact when you own a luxury car? I just got mine back after 3 weeks in the shop for a minor fender dent and I insisted on a full size car, they gave me a Dodge Dart. :(

I would trust a quality wiring harness made to OEM specifications. You just need a piece of particle board, nails, connectors, wire, cable ties, wire loom ... and a tape measure.
