  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Shocking Genesis Dealership Experience...

Thanks very much for the info.. Has your car needed any major repairs that involved extended waits for whatever reason? (no parts, techs couldn't figure it out etc)... I think the after sales support to me is probably a bigger consideration than the one time experience of haggling a purchase deal.... Sounds like the local dealer is investing in the brand.
So far, most issues were software recalls where I just waiting for the car for an hour or so at the service center. However, last year’s driveshaft recall was a royal pain with the old location. My car was out of service for over 2 months, (parts, tech training, + backlog). However, once I made contact with the leads at GMA HQ, they had the dealer give me a GV60P loaner for the whole period. They also let me keep my NEW GV60 safely home in my garage during the whole wait b/c the old Gen dealer in Everett had a number of theft and storage issues. Not a problem with the new/temp location. Feel free to PM me and we can discuss further 😀

While I’ve loved all of my past cars (2 BMW Sports wagons, ZDX, 2 Mercs, Supra), the GV60 calls me to drive it as often as I can. It’s luxurious, blazingly fast, quiet, comfortable, tons of safety and fun tech, fast charging, economical to drive, unique (at least around here), and I love the balance of physical and touch screen controls.

It's only a one-sided, excellent point. Although I understand the premise, it ignores the concept that those who paid more should expect more. If people take offense to that, I don't care. I want what I paid for.
What did you pay for? I've been to various car dealers and my Hyundai/Genesis dealer has much better waiting facilities than the Mercedes dealer. Would that sway you to buy the Hyundai over the Mercedes?

Take another scenario. Same car at two different dealers. Sticker is $60,000.

Dealer A has a mediocre service waiting area. Coffee, vending machine for snacks. He will sell you the car for $57,000

Dealer B has a really plush waiting area. Good coffer, fresh donuts and bagels, lots of free snack, big screen TV.
For the same car, he wants the sticker price plus another $1500 for some cheap add-ons.

Where would you buy?

It is excellent because it displayed reality. I was not expressing a personal view but no Hyundai dealer is going to make the Genesis area look vastly better. But having a separate building will accomplish that. It doesn't matter whether we agree with SirJangle or not: the reality is that no dealer will do that.

I get it. But I'm tired of the excuses for dealerships. The reality is that they took my "luxury" money and should honor their responsibility that comes with that. They most certainly don't have to. But don't be surprised if buyers go elsewhere.

You bought, so evidently you were happy with what you got.
I bought because I love the GV70. I bought it from a Hyundai dealership as they had the only Matte Barossa Burgundy SP around. But I'll be going to a different, standalone Genesis dealership for service. So, the AFTER is yet to be determined.

I don't disagree and I won't be surprised. Genesis makes great cars and the reviewers praise them to the skies but the reviewers don't deal with the service issues at dealerships. Genesis has to get its act together and having separate stores is a starting point. From what I have seen on this forum, and forums are not statistically valid, Genesis corporate has a long way to go to meet the corporate standards of BMW, MB and Audi not to mention Lexus. There needs to be a strong relationship between the regional corporate reps and the dealers.

Eventually, if Genesis doesn't get it fixed fairly soon, it will start to lose customers: first at the bad dealership level and eventually even at the good dealership level as the service problems impact on the brand.

Is anyone else in southern CT? Genesis of Milford is supposed to open this month as a dedicated dealer/service center. I haven't seen it yet, but the renderings look very nice.

My grandfather back in the 1940s owned a farm on the land that is now the Connecticut Post Shopping Center just up the street from the new dealership. Unfortunately he sold it before it turned into a shopping center. A great location. Can serve greater New Haven and greater Bridgeport/Stamford.

Your grandfather would roll over in his grave if he could see what was once beautiful, pastoral coastal farmland that is now a sea of malls, mini-malls, and fast-food dives.

It's called the "Boston Post Road" for a reason. For a long time it was the only way between Boston and New York. So, of course, retail type businesses filled it up. On top of which, as I noted above, it is very conveniently located between two of the three largest metro areas in Connecticut. When I was a teenager back in the late 1950s my brother and I would drive up to the area to get fresh bagels at the Lender's bagel store on that road.

Hopefully Genesis of Milford will be one of the good ones.

Could you imagine what your grandfather's land might be worth now?

Unfortunately, Milford/Orange didn't "control" the development as well as let's say, Westport, Darien, or Greenwich, which are much more enjoyable. In either case, luckily, once you go off the road in either direction within a block or two, you're pleasantly surprised with some absolutely lovely neighborhoods on prime real estate that are seemingly a world away.

It's also worth noting that besides the new Milford location, there already are 2 other Genesis dealers right down the road in Fairfield, and in Stamford. There's also one in Danbury, which I heard is going away. But it does seem strange to have so many dealers within such a small area.

The Connecticut shoreline is the gold coast. I just did a google search on Connecticut BMW dealers and I saw a similar arrangement. Genesis wants to be a major luxury auto marque so it makes sense to have dealers along the coast; whether Genesis gets there vs. a BMW (etc.) is still to be determined.

Are the other dealers just Genesis or Genesis sold from a Hyundai dealer? One may close.

AFAIK, the Milford dealer is an offshoot of M J Sullivan in New London. There were a good dealer but not sure if it is new owners. I see Colonial Hyundai now. I moved away 6 years ago so things may be much different.

Colocated Genesis/Hyundai. I've been going to Fairfield, and they also claim they are in process of building a standalone Genesis center as well, but didn't have any eta. I will likely schlepp further up county and try out Genesis of Milford once they open. The only Genesis dealer closing (or closed) that I know of is Danbury.

Took my GV60 in to Genesis of Cherry Hill to complete two recalls, and the experience was shockingly fantastic!!

I was floored by the service lobby being an amazing third space, with complimentary automatic coffee machines, snacks, conference rooms, and designs based off of Genesis House in NYC. Even the friggin bathrooms had a one-way window to a zen garden outside.

The service staff was warm, welcoming, specific, and no-bullshit. They did complementary rotation, and swapped out my wiper blades free of charge.

I am very happy to see Genesis making progress on its brand experience in the US. It will keep me coming back to the brand for sure.

Now if only I can find a coffee shop that offers the same feel...

It is wonderful to read about your experience. In my opinion, that's what anyone's experience purchasing a Genesis should be. They can't build dedicated Genesis dealerships fast enough. I purchased my 2024 GV60 from the nearest Hyundai dealership to me. The salesperson who helped me was wonderful, as were the online folks with whom I interacted before completing the sale. The finance manager was also professional and knowledgeable. But the ambience of the dealership was what I'd describe as cattle car: how many sales folks can you stuff into a space to sell as many cars as possible. Certainly not an experience that differentiates Genesis from Hyundai in any way. Disappointing.

Yes Genesis of Cherry Hill is the real deal. But just like any other dealership it’s run by folks and can also be hit or miss.

At the end of the day it's all about service in my opinion. You can buy a great luxury vehicle made by a top brand but that doesn't make it any more immune to trouble than a lower cost vehicle. We all have choices to make and am very pleased that my Genesis experience has been very good thus far considering my initial car troubles experience. I know some think that their new cars are getting pricier which is true, but then again, so are most other brands. We all have the choice of where we want to spend our hard earned dollars and will continue to support Genesis if they continue to provide me the experience they have to date. Many of my neighbors drive fancy German autos and are shocked when I share my services experiences and what they offer you for the first three years. The standalone showrooms are beautiful and I am pleased to see where they are today as compared to the days of the Hyundai Excel back when I was a kid...

I'm only in my GV70 for about a little over a year but am already eyeing my next ride. I hope everyone is enjoying their rides as much as I am and look forward to their continued innovation.

When I bought mine the Genesis dealership was completely shared with the Hyundai dealership. It was clean and neat but a sea of desks. I was, however, immediately greeted by a sales associate trained in and and competent in the Genesis brand (he even showed me how to use the fob to back the car out of a tight space). So...i was satisfied with the treatment even if it was a little less than what I used to have at BMW North Scottsdale.

Since then, they have moved the sales function to a high end outdoor mall a few miles away and it is definitely higher end. Here is the new showroom:

Here is the old, shared showroom:

While Genesis currently shares the service facility with Hyundai, there is a separate Genesis service building being constructed adjacent to the Hyundai facility.

But it is noteworthy that I received high end treatment at the older, shared facility including service (three scheduled maintenance visits; always provided me with a quality Genesis loaner and even offered valet service). Part of my belief that a high end facility helps but, ultimately, it all comes down to people. Starting with Genesis corporate but then dealership ownership, dealership senior management, etc.). It also helps to establish a good interpersonal relationship with dealership staff.
