FINALLY GOT MY R SPEC.........

Made a upgrade from my Pearl White base to a Black Noir R Spec model. I had my eye on these RSpec for quite some time but never did get around to find a White Rspec. The white Pearl paint on the Genny is one of the best colors I had ever owned. For some odd reason finding a white was very hard for me. I settled on a black car because I did not want another silver car. My C6 corvette is silver. This is the FIRST black car I have ever owned and it will be a challenge to keep her clean for sure. I will say on thing I kind of don't like is the smoked front headlights of the R Spec and Sunroof option, Other than that what an upgrade it was I am loving this R Spec. The cooled seat is something I can't see myself without after experiencing it. I am still fiddling with all the options and extras on this car but I'm kicking myself for not going and getting a Rspec earlier.

I have two questions maybe someone can answer for me.
1. Has anyone changed out there OEM HID bulbs to a higher temperature like 6000k or so? If so what bulbs did you use and where did you purchase them.
2. Is swapping out my smoked HID headlights for some non smoked / non r spec HID headlights possible and if so who want to swap :)

I have the 5.0 non R-Spec and i switched out my D1S bulbs with these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/181367527593?lpid=82&chn=ps

The light diif of the 5500K CBI's is a nice upgrade. I also put 25W 6000K HID's in my fogs. They match up pretty good. No heat related problems with the 25W bulbs in the fogs.
Ive also been eyeballing these for DRL and high beams:

Where r u located? If you were in Texas i would swap headlights with ya. :D

Congrats on the new ride!

J Boogie I am in SoCal.........Thanks for the info

Push button electronic parking break is the greatest thing ever. I also think the stock AFLS HID lamps are perfect. They're the best stock headlights I've ever had. I think just upgrading the fogs would be the only thing I would touch.

I also have a black car and have found that using the Jet black spray wax by turtle wax and Jet black detailer after washing helps a lot in reducing spots and dust collection on the finish.

ED 718 you wouldn't want 09-11 hid headlights would ya:p?

I kept all my LEDS I got from Diode including some LED fog lights which actually match the OEM HID's pretty close.

Hmmm got to try that never been a fan or turtle wax but it's worth a try

No sir the LED strip on the Genny is my favorite thing about the car

This is a long shot but I understand the Nav will play DVD's but will the Nav play movie files on a usb or DVD-r?

Have to ask - what are your initial thoughts on the driving experience vs the GDI V6? Acceleration from a dig, acceleration on the move, ride, handling, etc. I've toyed with the idea a couple of times of trading my base in for a low-mileage 12-13 R-Spec or 12 5.0. Would be interested in hearing a first hand experience form someone who did just that. How dramatic are the contrasts?

I almost bought a remaining stock 2014 V6, but it had limited options. I drove it, power was good. Then I drove a loaded low mile 2011 4.6 and was like... yeah I need all of the options. Not to mention the power up top on the V8. If there was a comparably priced R-spec available I would have gotten that.

Well for me it was a huge upgrade however the Rspec is not as smooth as my base model was. What I did enjoy the most was the extras / upgrades ( Nav, Air Cooled seats, Leather trim on dash etc ) that is the real reason I upgraded. Keep in mind I upgraded a year back going from a 13 base to a 12 Rspec. The acceleration from the base model to the Rspec is like night and day. If I were to back track I would have not even considered a base model at all and would have waited and saved for the Rspec. Now the 12 and 13's can be found ALOT cheaper now that the new models are out. I found a local used Rspec with 13k miles and the dealer was asking $27k which by the way for some reason I can't understand I did not jump on. The Rspec I have now was $25k with 30,000 miles which was OK I guess. I just got tired of trying to find a Pearl White and settled for a black but the more I look at this black car the more the color is growing on me.

I had a 2011 4.6 and now have a 2014 R-Spec. The power difference in terms of feel and outright acceleration doesn't seem that big to me. It's hard for me to say the 5.0 is much faster. I think the 4.6 was a really strong mill for sure. Perhaps the 5.0 has a little harder launch but not by much to my seat of the pants feeling. And my 4.6 was a lot better on MPG than the 5.0 is. So for me, I love the R-Spec ..... BUT I could easily trade the small power increase actually felt for the better MPG of the 4.6. Just my 2 cents.

I would imagine going from a 4.6 to 5.0 would not be much but from the base model it was a considerable jump. How much MPG are you getting on the 4.6? I really did not even need the Rspec I really wanted to just upgrade to the tech package or top of the line even if it were a v6 model.

I drive 70 miles each way everyday. Mostly highway with some traffic. I run about 80MPH with the exception of the traffic jams.

My 2011 4.6L was consistent in 24 to 26 MPG. On long trips, going to Las Vegas, etc., the 4.6L was in the 27 to 28 MPG range.

My 2014 5.0L R-Spec now has 5,200 miles on it. It is consistent in the same drive cycle at around 19.5 to 21.5 MPG. The longer trips gets me 24 to 25 (best ever was 25.4 MPG).

The 4.6L was paired with the 6 speed auto and the 5.0 with the 8 speed auto.

I don't notice much power difference. For sure the 5.0 is stronger out of the hole, but not by a lot to me. On top power I really cannot tell much. Maybe the 5.0 is a half second faster (maybe) but I would rather have the better MPG....

I drive about 43 miles each way to work and my gas mileage is getting better and better with the weather. I wouldn't worry too much if you only have 5200 miles on it. Your motor isn't even broken in yet.

It's was hard to see my White Genesis go but today she went home with someone else. The White Pearl paint is quite a stunning shade for the Genesis...:(

Ok, So I have driven both, but own a 2012 5.0 non r-spec. White Satin Pearl w/ Tan Interior. I definitely feel the additional 96hp. In my personal opinion though, I would not opt for the r-spec as I am not too fond of the rougher ride from the 19" wheels and stiffer suspension. I also don't like the fact that the r-spec doesn't have many color options or tan interior option and not too fond of smoked out headlights. Not to say the r-spec isn't a great vehicle, I just opt for a more luxury ride. To give an idea of price, I just bought the 2012 5.0 from CarMax with 44k miles for $22,998. Got a 150k or 5 years warranty for $2250. no deductible.
