  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My wife had to take my '15 Genesis sedan to work the other day because her Sienna was getting worked on, and when I drove it that night I immediately noticed that the leather on my steering wheel had a slice in it at about the 9 o'clock position.

I can feel it each time the wheel runs through my fingers, and it's driving me nuts.

I assume that her diamond ring caused it, but what can I do about it? Anybody ever have a similar situation?

It's about a 1/2" long, perpendicular to the sides of the rim.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
look on ebay for a new wheel, an airbag is only like 250 on ebay so the wheel shouldn't be that much more. Or send it to a upholstery shop that can do custom interiors and get it re wrapped.

Looks like a brand new steering wheel for a 2015 Ultimate RWD (steering wheel not heated) is about $711 MSRP and $498 at the online site below. Not sure how easy the installation would be, since it may involve removing and reinstalling the airbag.

I would take it to an automotive upholstery shop and see if the they can repair it. Other option is to find one at an online junkyard, but you still have installation to worry about.

Take it to your dealer and get a replacement under warranty. You have no obligation to offer a theory about how it was damaged.

On a brand new car, they'll do that. My '15 had a nick in the leather on the steering wheel rim on delivery. The dealer's "interior guy" fixed without replacing the wheel. However, on a 2-3 year old car, I'd bet they'll say it is wear (it is) and not not covered under warranty - cuts/nicks do not happen spontaneously, so it is really the user's fault. Worth a try, I suppose, but I'd be pleasantly surprised if they fixed it under warranty.

Tell your wife to put duct tape over the ring when driving the car.

I'd suggest taking it to a shop that does interior repairs. You'd be surprised what those guys can do.
If they can repair a cut or tear in a seat, I'd think a steering wheel would be pretty easy.

Hey guys - Thanks for the suggestions. It's not bad enough to replace the steering wheel, so I'll try the interior repair route.
